What will this card bring when it comes back as a 10......?

I've been on a bit of a '73 kick here lately. I've bought a couple of high grade sets, opened a really nice '73 cello that yielded a Munson 9, and sent in a lot for grading. I bought a big lot of '73's a while back on the cheap and didn't think much about them until now when I've been going through these new '73's. The overall condition of the lot is probably EX/MT -NM but I found a few graders including this gem. There are no 10's. I can't see any flaws, it has none of the chipping on the tough black backs that you normally see and the back is dead centered which is really tough. Any guesses as to what it would bring in a 10 holder?

Is any of the stuff that looks to be lint on the scanner bed actually a mark on the card?
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I've graded a lot of '73's and the front centering here is comparable to the 4 10's I've gotten and is certainly within the parameters I think, and the back is much better than those.

sure looks nice Tommy. i'd give a shot. what i see holding it back is that lower right corner on the reverse, looks like a tiny hint of a push there, or is it the scanner?

anyways, nice shot of Darrel Chaney's butt. image
  • If that card isn't a 10, I don't know what is.

Sorry Tommy. Even though your first name has the required five letters, it does not begin with the letter R.

And a 9 if if gets an honest grader?

Centering is fine, in fact, more than fine; that said, it's a 9 75% of the time. Wouldn't shock me if I saw it in a 10 holder though.

  • If you have an extra Braves team set that you may want to part with, I would be interested. I've been working on Topps Braves team sets from 66 forward. 1966 was the first year in Atlanta.

I'm not a condition freak on these, for they are being put into 9 page sheets and then in binders. My nephews just love going thru them. We always make at least two trips to baseball games. We are a hour from Rome (Braves A team) and a hour away from Huntsville (Brewers AA team, but plays the Braves AA team) and 2 and half hours from Atlanta.

Our favorite trip is actually to the Rome Braves, such a neat stadium
