...Bertha 'Bert' Bressett passes away
Bertha “Bert” Britton Bressett, 86, died peacefully in the hospital Feb. 12, after many years of coping with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
She was born in 1925 in Keene, N.H., and attended schools there with special emphasis on business administration. She married Kenneth E. Bressett in 1950, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2010. The couple had three children.
She frequently accompanied her husband, editor of "A Guide Book of United States Coins" and a former ANA president, on trips and was a hostess and volunteer worker at various numismatic events throughout the country. She volunteered with the ANA for more than 25 years.
For her service and dedication to the numismatic hobby, she received the ANA Medal of Merit in 1993, the Farran Zerbe in 1998, and a Presidential Award in July 2001. She was also awarded the Numismatic News Ambassador Award in 1999.
“Bert Bressett’s specialty in numismatics was people; it’s been said that she ‘collects friends.’ Truer words have never been said about anyone and few in the hobby had a collection of friends as many as Bert had. It was also said that she has been one of the hobby's best representative to non-collectors,” John and Nancy Wilson wrote.
A funeral service including a Catholic Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mrs. Bressett's memory to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 Pikes Peak Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
“She was very easy to talk to and always gave common-sense advice to people. She’s the one person who was absolutely tried and true loyal,” said Ruthann Brettell, who will deliver Mrs. Bressett’s eulogy.
