I read a book some years ago and it was an older book from the early 70's. In it the author was explaining that most stashes are located within the confines
of the house or other structures. Due mostly to the penchant for ease of access and never wanting to be to far from the hoard. I had usually thought, detecting wise,
that around near or within 100 feet of the grounds was good until I read that. He then explained how to search walls and ceilings with the detector, how to tell the nails from
the real thing etc. He didn't have the discriminators as we do today. This is probably nothing new to all here, but it was to me.
When I was young, 12 I received a whites bounty hunter and while trying it out the first time in my own back yard I found a 1959 dime. That at the time was really neat.
the last time I went out I was locating everyones spent shells and a stash of unused ammo, thoroughly corroded of course. I was trying my hand at nugget shooting, but the unit I now have isn't really designed for it, I might upgrade eventually.
It would be nice if they did a follow up story with more detailed info. A classic rarity may be amoung them.
<< <i>NumbersUsa, there is a lot of truth to what you read.... however, as in most cases, it is not the whole story. Many old timers also buried their treasure.... when cache hunting, try to determine where the kitchen was located (usually in the back of the house) and the bedroom. Then imagine windows that may (or might still be) have been there. Look for fence lines, very old trees, or perhaps a rock wall.... then detect those areas. They were prime sites since they could easily be watched. No doubt walls, ceilings and basements need to be MD'd as well. Cheers, RickO >>
Ricko,
Thanks for that further insight. The idea of visualizing the differing rooms is helpful. And the idea of an exterior spot being watchable from inside the house.
