Nostalgically speaking, probably 1988 but today I would go with the 83. Having 2 pictures on the front was an amazing thing back then (aside from 1963). Besides, great set and plenty of Hall Of Famers in this one.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo. ~WalterSobchak
There is no Topps set design from the '80s that I really love, but if I had to pick a favorite I'd go with 1983. Second place: 1987.
Worst: 1988 (although '88 is not one-tenth as ugly as 1990 Topps, IMO. 1990 Topps is the single ugliest baseball card set that I am aware of.)

I've got a very special place in my heart for 1985 Topps. It was the first pack of baseball cards I bought as a kid, and every card in the set brings back a fun memory for me.
1982 - first year I collected (1986 is a close 2nd as it was the first year I started putting a set together & learned that cards has some value to them).
1985 Topps. Those were the first cards I ever collected and pulling a Dwight Gooden was like hitting the lottery. We traveled all over Orlando to find packs at the best prices.
In 1985 I was 10 years old and was given permission to ride my bike to the local 7-11. Ryno was fresh off a NL MVP award. Bought quite a few 85 Topps packs that summer. I taped all of the Cubs players to my bedroom wall. Good times.
I love the 82 Topps Carlton Fisk In Action card. The first cards I ever bought was from 1980. 1985 is the year I really started collecting for real. 1987 is the year I bought the most of.
My favorite now is the 1983. Really like the design.
1983 for me...Like others, it was the first year I started collecting and the set that got me hooked. I can still remember bugging my mom to take me to the local 7-11 where I bought a ton of 83 Topps and Fleer packs. Good times.
My vote is for 1980, I have two of these complete in raw one of which I'm thinking of submitting. I pulled a handful of them to submit to gauge how they will do over all. Many people don't like the design, but I love this set. I love the colors from the Dawson, Parker, Carlton, and Ryan cards. My second favorite is 83.
My least favorite set is 86, with 81 following close behind; 87-89 are not worth mentioning.
1989 for me. It's a nostalgic pick for sure. I was 5 and that was the first year I was introduced into baseball cards. I was aware of the Rangers, but not really who was good on the team. And this was my first Rangers card I got in a pack...
Some spare who wasn't even with the team in 1989. I carry one around in my wallet. It's obviously beat to hell.
<< <i>Can I go ahead and post a thread asking what everyone's favorite year was from the 60s, 70s and 90s?
If it makes you happy, sure. >>
Do '90s first so I can b*tch about 1990 Topps again. Thanks in advance!!!

To answer your question, I'd choose 1987 or 1985.
1981 has to be one of Topps' five worst designs of all time.
Only an idiot would have a message board signature.

1983. Honestly, none of the 80's sets are very impressive to me.

What is wrong with this thread? It's fine. Stop being a douche.

Go ahead. Or you can continue to go around into other threads and act like an a-hole. The choice is yours.

Currently collecting 1934 Butterfinger, 1969 Nabisco, 1991 Topps Desert Shield (in PSA 9 or 10), and 1990 Donruss Learning Series (in PSA 10).
I still favor 1980 for nostalgic sake, because it was really the first year I collected baseball cards.

I've got the complete set now in solid Ex-Mt condition... though at least one of the cards still has my best friend's name marked on the back.
