I might, but the coins are pretty specialized and they may do best in with other British coins in a major auction.

It's not new, and it's the auction house that determines the value, that will add up to $5K, by using their lowest estimates.

Stack's also has a minimum, just as the rest of the auction houses.


In my opinion, it's a mistake to sell them as a set. You will get more by selling them individually and with some time in between them.

Let's say that you're better off consigning the highest graded one to them.

You will suggest the selling price and provided that it's not unreasonable, Chris will agree.

You can always use recent auction results as an example, but remember to include a 10% for their commission and an additional 10% if they have to discount it later on.

NEN buyers often don't look or buy from ebay, but NEN itself scouts it quite often, something useful to remember.

Still, if you have to have one on ebay and one on NEN simultaneously, it wouldn't be a bad idea to list it by yourself with a BIN+ best offer option to avoid a no reserve auction competing with the example at NEN. You own superb images of all, so it shouldn't be a problem to try it out on one of them at first.

If this doesn't work within a reasonable amount of time, you can always consign them to someone like Jeremy.

Finally, if you end up with two (or more) similar coins that will be sold on ebay no reserve, it's always better to sell the lowest grade first, again with some time in between them.


Edited to add: you can consign to NEN the most difficult one to image as well, wether it's the highest graded that you still own or not. That's because NEN buyers are very forgiving if the image isn't of the highest standards and because NEN has the great reputation that their coins always look better in hand than on their site.

Than based on this I'd sell it myself on Ebay if you have good photo skills - that's critical.... or consign it to someone like our very own Jeremy K as syricusian just mentioned - probably your best bet - don't waste time or money with any auction firm for this!

The problem I have with eBay is that most eBay bidders are looking for a bargain. Nothing wrong with that. I would have to list the coin(s) with an high opening bid and I have noticed most bidders will not bid on a coin that has a $800 opening bid and I'm not willing to take that the chance of the coin being listed at a 99c opening bid and having it sell for $200.

Depends on your status as a seller. For a regular occasional seller it's pretty much what Don said.

Welcome to the club. BIN+best offer, as well as NEN, both allow you to overcome this problem. In fact, if the item sells quickly at NEN, the fees are lower than ebay. A high opening bid, is not BIN+ best offer, which attracts more bidders because of the best offer option. Once you have an offer that you think is satisfying, you hit the accept button and it's done. But it usually takes patience, and you need to have the luxury of time to choose any of the two.

VIP proofs are rather esoteric coins, given their recent age and high price, and the best deals are probably done in private, despite Stack's recent exception. Perhaps, smaller dealers, UK based or specialized, are worth a try.
