A true work of art on cardboard, and that's a killer example.
Nice deep, dark lime-green background on that one, too.

The pose for this card, as many might know, comes from the
moment in history when Ruth shook hands with President Warren
Harding on the first opening day at Yankee Stadium, April 18. 1923.

I don't think any of the ones left on the list are cheap. There are some that are still doable like the Ansons, the Lowdermilk, T3 Cobb, US Caramels, and 52 Mathews. Doable as in lows thousands. :-p I've never never heard of the Roberts card before. Most of the rest of the list are probably 5K or more to impossible.

I'm the biggest idiot on here because the 1968 Topps Test Havlicek is the card I'd want most out of that list (and I'd have him sign it image )

I have 26 of them autographed (10.4%). There are definitely board members here with at least 20% signed.

The Roberts card I think last sold for in the $30+K range....I think there's only three or so that are documented to be known. Never released to the public, but a few of Gelman's samples made their way into the hobby of the years. Of the three toughies from the set [Stanky and Konstanty are the others], Roberts is the "best" to have -- although any of those three would be a noteworthy addition to even the most advanced of collections.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

How many cards on that list have less than 10 known copies? I know the Graziano is probably in the 7-8 range as well.

My post was more of an attempt at self deprecating humor that missed. It was not a sincere form of bragging.

Correct on Graziano. Pop 6, with 2 SGC copies, I believe.

    From that list (PSA only):
1869 PECK & SNYDER CINCINNATI RED STOCKINGS - Pop 9
1909-11 T206 WHITE BORDER TY COBB (TY COBB BACK) - Pop 5 (more than 12 known to exist)
    1910 T210 OLD MILL JOE JACKSON - Pop 8
1914 BALTIMORE NEWS BABE RUTH - Pop 1
    1948 LEAF ROCKY GRAZIANO - Pop 6
    1950-51 TOLETEROS JOSH GIBSON - Pop 8
    1951 TOPPS CURRENT ALL-STAR ROBIN ROBERTS - Pop 1
1968 TOPPS TEST JOHN HAVLICEK - Pop 8

I have missed a couple more under 10. Aside from the black and white Havlicek and Josh Gibson, I believe every one of these cards would set you back $25,000 or more in any condition, with several closer to or over $100,000.

Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

Now you guys know why I have not moved at all this year. These cards do not come up often, and then you have to hope it is one graded at the level in which you can afford. Lastly, you then have to hope that it does not get bid up to way over value!!!!!!

I have been the underbidder on several of these cards in the past year. I am sure in the near future, I may be able to add three or four more of these cards, but then I might be done. There are probably 7-10 cards that I will never own, due to rarity and price.

I think those numbers are a bit higher. I know of 3 of the '51 Roberts, and I"m sure there are more. A friend has 2 of the Balt News Ruth's and there are definitely more of those, although not many. Graziano and Jax seem low too, based on the number of unique examples over the last 10 years. There was about a dozen Cobb/Cobbs in one REA auction about 15 years ago, and the Toleteros Gibson is deliberately trickled out but there are certainly more than have been seen.
Still a tough list and an easy half million in mid grade if and when they come up. Haven't seen Roberts (or Stanky or Konstanty from that set) in about a decade and it was probably that long before the previous sale.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
