1978 Topps Tim Corcoran PSA 10 Pop 1 about to end on EBAY

1978 Topps PSA 10

Wow these guys continue to bid these Pop 1's to the moon. I can't even begin to imagine how much the number 1 set owner on the registry has invested in his set.

The last few auctions went for close to $1,400 so I am watching for a fireworks display.

I recall buying a NM set in 1980 for $7.95

Ironically, the price of that card just surpassed Tim Corcoran's salary in 1978.
  • I've seen POP 1 '78s go for close to 2K. over the last couple years. The "cheap" ones seem to go for about the 800 bucks this one is at now.

I've definitely seen nicer 10s from this set

    $805 was the hammer price.

Got to love turning a $0.25 card into $805 bucks. Very nice work!

That makes me want to go through all my extra 78s and see if there are any hidden gems.

  • That 42 feedback bidder also only has 1% activity with this seller, I tend to think the bid was legit.

The crazy thing is it's probably not much better than a PSA 9 anyway.

People who get hung up on these PSA grades do make it easier for people like me who just want to enjoy some nice cards. I've been buying some 1971 PSA 7's of HOFers (as long as the cards have great eye appeal and a rich dark color) for nice cheap prices because people focus on higher grades. Another example: the 1984 Donruss set - the difference between PSA 10 and PSA 9 is huge and the PSA 9s look great.

But why bid $699 and $799? You don't bid these amounts if you want to win.

  • So I'd like to know why BBG retracted his/her bid?

    Nice post Hatch.

78 topps baseball was the first set that I completed as a child. Good to see folks work hard and have the funds to enjoy
    this hobby. Good luck.

Looks like BBG has replaced Brett Favre as the czar's arch enemy, lol..

Wow - I remember years ago giving Dan aka Softparade some 78Ts - a few came back 10s - had no idea some could go for that kind of money!

    Ya gotta love this stuff!
