Got my 3 football packs, nice cards but no stars in 2 of the packs but 1978 has Payton league leaders on top and i have not open that. I guess I am going to have to keep sealed and save for grading, I don't have any sealed packs but i guess i might have to start!!
Had a nice little package waiting for me when I got home today.
I am saving the 82 baseball for tomorrow to spread the fun out a little.
The first little beauty I spied was .... This great Earl Campbell Rookie sitting on top!!!!
I know it's not THE rookie but still pretty sweet!
I added an 83 cello fb box to my order for fun. Steve gave me the discount & I couldn't pass it up.
As most of you know I am a diehard Redskins fan. The way they have been playing lately, it has been a slow, hard death year by year. I was hoping for some glory years 'Skins on top of these packs. Boy did I hit the jackpot!!!
Monk was the biggie! But the super Bowl card & Nelms who was always one of my favorites are sweet too. I also got a Rich Milot on the back of a Harvey Martin (not shown).
Busted my '82 box and pack run. One Ripken in the box, good centering but a small edge ding. The packs yielded nothing. I did pick up a '78 cello as well and it had Don Sutton showing on the back but that wasn't really enough to keep me from opening it. Got a nice Fisk & Rose as well as a miscut McCovey.
I don't think it's weird. Cellos are hit or miss. I've bought a single '80 cello from BBCE before and got a Henderson (which would also lessen the chances of others from that same box scoring a big hit). And I only expected one Ripken from the '82 box anyway, just hoped for more. And when I said I got "nothing" from the cellos, there may have been a few HOFers, but not in 9-10 grade so I didn't mention them.

With the '82 cello, there's really only one card to chase. So it's not like there are a lot of high dollar cards to seek. I haven't decided if I'm going to open my box yet. Part of me wants to upgrade my primary set with better centered examples while the other part of me says 'why bother'.
<< <i>Is it just me or do others think it's weird that baseball pack runs and 82 cello box rips haven't really yielded much... >>
Nope. I could see a pack with the seal waving in the wind and a sign on it that read "I've been searched" on Steve's site and still buy it with all confidence that it was untouched.
A little over a year ago I bought an '82 cello box (loose) from Steve and there staring back at me in the middle of the box was a Ripken on top pack! This was right before I started lurking on this board, so guess what I did? I opened the darn thing hoping for a 2 in 1
The seals werent great on my 72's,so I opened them fully aware that i could rerun them - but that didnt feel right. got a pretty clean plamer. Im travelling for a bit but will post scans of the clean ones when I get back.
I'd say one Ripken R per box is standard and didn't Jim get a cello with Ripken on top? So I'd say that the 82s are what you'd expect them to be and the Ripken pack paid for Jim's entire box.

The pack is worth $120?
Graded, yes. In fact, retail value is about $150 in a PSA 9 holder and we know it's authentic.

It's easy to have high expectations when buying these packs and boxes in group rips. I've never seen more than one Ripken RC come out of a Topps or Fleer box.
Sadly, it seems that a lot of people getting involved in these rips are not in it to "enjoy it" but are overly concerned about pulling something "good".
This is, and will always be a losing proposition when you are ripping wax, ESPECIALLY anything in the pre-rare-insert days.
You want a MINT Ripken Topps Rookie? then you are best to go and buy one, as they are in the $50 area all day long on eBay.
You want the thrill of pulling one yourself? then you participate in these group rips.

I got my packs on Monday. Thanks again for setting this up Mike!
Also if anyone opens the 1977 Topps Football Wax Packs and finds one of the 4 cards listed below. I would be interested in them as they are the last 4, that I need in a PSA 8 or higher holder.

I enjoy seeing and keeping packs with stars on top (and bottom). With the amount of HOFers/Stars, you'd think there would be more keeper packs. It's a simple concern that possibly, these were searched over the years.
As another poster wrote --
bought 2 cello runs of baseball. No stars showing on any of the packs.
I've opened one run and haven't found any stars inside the packs either!! I got to the point I was laughing at the results.
I pulled a 1980 Yaz, and that was it. Really, that was it.
No Rose, Sutter, Fisk, Murray, Carter, Bench, Henderson, Perez, Young, Schmidt, Perry, Gossage, Winfield, Dawson, Seaver, Ryan, Palmer, Stargell, Carew, Morgan, Fingers.....nothing!!!! Let alone a rookie of Ozzie, Henderson, Raines, Ripken, Gwynn, Boggs, or Sandberg!!! It was U-G-L-Y!!!
I also had Steve throw in a box of 89-90 Fleer Basketball Racks. I thought my basketball team would all get a kick out of getting a pack at the end of the year party. Plenty of Bird, Magic, Karl Malone, Stockton and even a Jordan showing.
I already showed the 83 fb cello box I added to my order.
Now for the 82.....
The 82 cello box had star power showing on 11 of the packs. Pretty sweet 46%!
All of the packs will be graded at some point.
I also want to thank Greg (hamilton989) for trading this Riggins pack to me. Always love to add Redskins packs to my collection. If anyone else has packs with Redskins players showing please let me know!
Two cellos with Ripken on top? I think you can rule out any possibility that these we're searched. Really.

Hey, the title of the thread was changed to "Post your rips/scans". I posted I didn't get anything.
I wasn't implying anything was searched, I said I had fun but I have no luck. It was a blast and I would do it again. I WILL do it again.
Let me know if I'm only allowed to post my results if they're good.
Love the '82 pack with the Seaver on top!!! Great stuff!!
Really nice centering on that Ripken! Chances are against you on two Ripkens, but the cellos individually don't have a lot of value so I say RIP AWAY!!!
I hit Ripken in my 3rd or 4th pack but kept going anyway. Just like I did after I hit Ozzie in a '79 cello box. The chase is too much fun, regardless of the result.

Just opened my packs. It the baseball cello run I pulled a couple Reggie Jacksons and a Wade Boggs rookie that is off centered to the bottom. The only decent football cards were a 78 Staubach, a 79 Payton All Pro and a 79 Staubach All Pro. I haven't decided what to do with the 82 Baseball box yet. James
There is more than one sequence so even if you know it, you can't be sure till you open the pack.

Busted the baseball run and nothing special.
Football packs were mostly off centered,
Ozzie Newsome showed up as the best centered of the bunch with a slight touch on one of the corners.
It was fun and will save the box for later.

Oh yeah I also got these in the box....
Pretty SWEET box for less than $90.
Thanks Steve.
I'll crack the 82 cello baseball box tomorrow.
Hope everyone is enjoying the packs.

No Ripkens showing on my packs but there was a Seaver, Bench and Sutter showing.
I started to open them up and in the ninth cello I found Mr. Ripken.
Any chance of another appearance in the last 12 packs?
I will leave them sealed for now. (until I get bored).

It would be nice to know for those that haven't ripped their packs yet.
Nice to know like people did on the rack break.
We could see if the pattern runs true.
