    That's a great looking 9.

  • << <i>That's a great looking 9. >>

But not worth over 2 grand.

Yea....I dont get it.....In addition to "Buy the card - NOT the flip", I guess you need to add "Buy the card - NOT the seller"!!
  • Fairly certain part of the price increase is based on the condition of the card. Probably a few speculators thinking it's worthy of a 10.

Did the high bidders inform you of this ? How can you be fairly certain ?

Look at the card... No body has to inform someone of an opinion.

i couldn't see that card in a 10 holder. or even a BVG with highest subgrades.

    great centering, though.

My initial thought was someone was going to play a dangerous game of crack and submit or at least in for review. I think that is a fair assumption. Of course no one can really 100% know, after all, nothing is certain except death and taxes. But when you think of it there are over 7 Billion people on earth who have never died, and half of Americans don't have to pay taxes so I guess we actually know nothing.

    .
  • with all the scum and scammers on the bay, I'm sure plenty of bidders/buyers would rather just know what they were dealing with and are willing to pay for it.

Selling a grossly overpriced auction item and getting paid for it (on eBay) are completely different.

    +1
  • am I the only one who see the giant gap in the PSA holder. The card doesn't even get close to filling the holder.

It looks like the same bidder is the high bidder on this PSA 9 Jordan. Link

It's probably a buyer for 4sharpcorners. They probably buy tons of PSA 9s and resubmit them for bumps to 10's because they get preferential treatment on grades. Why WOULDN'T they do that.

The stock market is off to a great start this year. Pent up demand. Same as cards, I guess.
  • As someone that has bought from Rick for years now, it was MUCH better (read:cheaper lol) buying from him back when he was less famous image

Nothing against Rick, but how does two bidders bidding on one card translate into Prostein has a following..

someone gave it a flat-top haircut.
  • Have I ever wondered if Probstein has a following?

All I have to do is tune in here and there's a line out the door waiting to give him a lap dance.

I would not give him a lap dance, but a motorboat with my manboobs

How does Rich prevent consignors from bidding on their own items to drive up prices?

  • << <i>How does Rich prevent consignors from bidding on their own items to drive up prices? >>

Probably cant prevent it, but i want to know if he has ever pulled off a listing because of the owner was shilling?

    mmk probably not.

My deductive reasoning says that I'm fairly certain that anyone justifying the ridiculous price on this auction has skin in the game,

    What's the average price on a 9?

    Wow - that's a lot of money!

  • Everyone is so focused on the present. VCP this, VCP that, recent closed listings this, recent closed listings that, etc. This card is iconic....the buyer is looking into the future....when the economy is back and may be MJ passes away....then people pay more....may be way more than now...it is all speculation on the buyer's part...I wouldn't be a hater. You get what you pay for....and that is what the buyer is doing.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
I get a kick out of those that insist on paying VCP average.

There is an 'average' for a reason.

    Good for you.
  • No offense to Probstein, hes just making his cabbage. 2G is alot of money, and for 2G+ I want a card 50/50. Its not even close. I think the card in general is undervalued in a 9, but 2G+ for one thats not centered is nuts.

That's a lot of cheese for an 80's card. Maybe the Ozzie RC PSA 10 buyer is into hoops cards now.

    Nice sale Rick!!

MJ turns 49 in nine days.
  • I've also bid well above VCP on several Probstien auctions.

Am I a follower,.. whatever, ya.

    Won't be long before I'm a consigner I'm thinking.

    definitely has a following...

not even listed correctly and still gets bids!!!

why in the world would anyone spend an extra $800 just because of the seller?
