Did you know the US Mint sold bags of mixed Wheat Cents? (Ebay)

US MINT SEALED BAG WHEAT PENNY 5000 UNSEARCHED COINS

Q&A at bottom says they're sealed with a "lead" seal.

And I thought the Mint *sewed* the bags in 'recent years'. A lead seal means it would be quite old, no?

Maybe it's a 1909 BU bag!!

Wow.

I'm thinking I might buy it to go with the antique suspension bridge out in New York that I bought recently.

    Well.....at least they're honest...(sort of????)image
Maybe completely, i don't know.... How would onecome across something like this?
The fabric on the bag looks prett bright to be from the pre '59 era...
And of course, how would one 'know' that the bag contains wheat cents? Does the lead seal have a date?

  • If a bag of cents came in the year 1958 from any source, the contents were probably all wheats.
