Ouchies!!!

And he also sold another one...today...for $37K.

Will paypal cover a buyer for over $2,000? Or are these 2 poor saps out some serious dough?

if it can be paid for in one lump sum using paypal, buyers are covered...at least from my reading of the buyer protection policy.

AMAZING what people will do on-line!!! I would only consider something like that if I could hold and test it all in the presence of a 50 year in the bizness professional.
    Truly f-ing amazing!

A kilo gold goes for at least 55K.

Maybe I am naive on this, but why would a seller open himself up for a very serious fraud charge like this KNOWING they are fake? Both recent auctions were Best Offer accepted auctions. The first auction sold on 1-28. The seller still has 100% fb and when you search completed listings they still show up unlike if there was a complaint by the buyer when eBay "hides" the auction info. by saying the auction info. is no longer available because they don't want people to know that fraud was committed on their site. Is the seller banking on they can get to the actual cash from the sale before the curtain is raised and go into hiding? The seller has been around eBay for 13 years although with minimal recent activity. Is this some kind of 13 year plan to make a score and go into hiding? Could the account be hijacked?

Could the seller posssibly just be into them dirt cheap (relatively speaking) having bought them sometime long ago and realizes there aren't many people out there that can afford $55k at a pop and settled for a best offer because they might be into them for maybe $10k?
I am intrigued by this and am just throwing this out there as food for thought. Please feel free to elaborate.

    $123,000 in 2 weeks.

    PayPal is gonna love him.

  • My guess is a hijacked account Rich. The bars will never be delivered, at best the buyers will get a box with 2.2 pounds of books in them. I doubt that paypal will allow those funds to clear right away, but thats simply speculation. I called paypal about a month ago and asked specifically if there was any "limit" on money I could receive, or any "holding time". I was told that my account was green light all the way. I even asked the guy, "what if I sell $100,000 in a week"?
His response is that I could withdraw that $100k immediately. But then, I have a LOT more selling activity than 4 transactions over the past year like this seller.

You're probably right Phil. Looks like an almost "stock" like photo for both auctions is a tip too.
I wonder if the person doing the hacking realizes that they still can be found, simply because there is a trail now. What a chance to take in this day & age. Amazing.

I'm guessing the bars are real but the seller doesn't own them and is just using a pic to rip off a naive buyer with more money than sense. No one in their right mind sells gold bars that heavily discounted from the melt value. If the seller is legitimate, he could just send them to APMEX or other bullion dealer and get their current melt value.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

or in the worst case a refiner like NTR with offices around the country. Scam all the way...

    1 troy ounce = 31.1 grams

At least this seller is a USA con without knowledge of metric or Troy weights.

Unbelievable that anyone would be taken in by this obvious fraud. Cheers, RickO
  • New feedback left shows some poor guy paid $19,990 by WIRE TRANSFER, for a 12 oz giant panda proof !!! Thats a major OUCH. No refunds no paypal protection , no Credit card to chargeback. That poor sap just lost 20grand to this highjacker with no way to recover. That's an expensive lesson !! Will Ebay make that right ???

"40% Positive feedback" 697 feeback total.

    Dayyyuuummm.

PS- I forgot that Ebay just shows recent feedback now. Maybe that's not such a bad change when it comes to issues like this.

  • This looks to be a hacked account IMO.
  • I've taken kRaZy risks before on eBay, but never for an amount over $2K and of course I never send a wire. The moment a seller requests a bank wire I tell them it's paypal or negative feedback. I've had to file $50 to $1800 claims many times, but I've always been covered.

I feel for the folks who were scammed by this p.o.s., but for the life of me I just can't figure out why any rational person would think it's okay to wire someone who has no history of selling gold 20K for gold.

Definitely hijacked account appearance--no activity from 9/2005 until 1/2012. A couple relatively low value auctions (including one won by a now NARU buyer with a feedback of 4). No one deserves to be ripped off, but a little caution is warranted when an account goes active after 6.5 years. Maybe that was when the jail sentence was up...wowzers.
