2 FEATHER BUFFS?

I have Ron Popes book "The Abraided Die Varieties" and was wondering if there was a guide line as to what is considered a true 2 feather and a 2 1/2 feather? Who would be the best source to atttribute this? I know Ron has a login here so maybe he will chime in. I have a 1928-S that has a very small remnant of the third feather.

Looks like a 2.5 feather to me. Rich Uhrich has a bunch on his website to take a look at, don't know if there is a source to attribute this or not.

I'm sure Ron will be along in a day or two.

I've seen a number of dates that are officially known as 2-feathers, but still show remnants of a third feather, while other dates that look identical are officially labeled 2 1/2 feathered. Seems kind of arbitrary to me at times.

Big Tony-Took me a couple of days but here it is. The '28-S you picture is, in my opinion, just about the limit of what would constitute a 2F. I show two examples of two dies for the 1927-S in my book where the dividing line between a 2F and a 2HF (2 1/2) feather should be used for this purpose. It's really kind of subjective, tho-what one person considers a 2F would be a 2HF to the next guy. There are 17 dates (out of 27 total dates) that are "true" 2 feather coins that show no feather or just a tiny bit of the feather. These are listed in my book. There is another '28-S die that shows somewhat less of a feather than the one you show.

    Hope that helps!

Ron (koynekwest) what page are those 2 pics of the 1927-S?

I have also cherried 2 1919-D 2 feathers in the last month off of Ebay. One seller had 2 1/2 feathers but it looks like a 2 feather to me. The pic is image
