2012 Leaf US Army All-American ANDREW LUCK Infamous Prismatic ERROR Card /39

Hey guys,

2012 Leaf US ARMY METAL PRISMATIC ANDREW LUCK 1ST CARD (350 made) has been selling for lots of cash lately due to the fact that they had ANDERW LUCK INSTEAD OF ANDREW ON THE BACK OF THE CARD.

I messaged the ebay ID that is "LeafTradingCards" and they said that they pulled the card from the market after selling for 15$ a pop. It seems one seller has 39 of the 350 and that may be all that exist.

Is LeafTradingCards their legit ebay name ???? I couldn't pass up on this one and hope I didn't get burned.....

anyone know any more info ?

  • Leaf issued the cards and was selling them on eBay for $15 the first day. They noticed the error and stopped selling them right away. They issued a statement saying they would destroy the errors but anyone who had already completed the purchase would get the error card delivered to them. That is why there is 39 out there with the other 311 being destroyed. The sellers of the 39 cards have all been different people now because they were the original buyers during the first few hours they were available. Legit error versus staged publicity?

I forgot to add that since they have been "pulled" these cards are selling for $125 - $561 on ebay since then

  • This is the statement issued by Leaf owner Brian Gray;

We appreciate the feedback on the recent Metal Andrew Luck cards which included spelling errors. I am embarassed over these oversights and I would like to apologize on behalf of LEAF that these errors occured.

These were printed as part of a much larger job and were only one card on a 100 card sheet. With that being said, there is still no excuse for this error..

In an effort to address this issue in the most responsible manner:

1> We have removed all listings for auction style cards featuring this error. This includes ALL parallels. All bids are cancelled and the cards will be destroyed!

2> We have discontinued selling the error version of the Luck Prismatic. We WILL ship the 39 copies sold last night, but will be destroying the rest of the copies immediately. Therefore, while the cards are numbered to 350, only 39 cards will be released. We will only ship cards #1/350 to 39/350.

3> We have (at great expense) stopped the presses mid-production and added this card to our Metal Football Draft print job. We WILL be reprinting these cards with corrections made. These cards will be made available on ebay in the next 10 days for shipment approximately February 7th. These corrected versions will be made available similar to the manner error versions were.

4> The base version of the Luck card has no errors and will continue to be made available continously until the production run is sold out.

5> We will allow any collectors who wish to swap their "error" prismatic the opportunity to swap for corrected versions...

I am pleased we found this solution to any concerns over the errors on these cards.

Once again, I personally apologize to both collectors and Andrew for these errors and hope this resolution resolves open concerns..

i DOUBT it ...because no one knows about it even now.....and only 39 is a very limited amount....

The only thing that is odd is why not let all the errors out and then correct it....

    just glad I got one

    Funny.
Of course this is an intentional error created to manufacture interest in the product. A 100-card set and the only error just happens to be on Luck's card?
  • Not to mention that people will be buying up key cards from them in the future hoping there's another error. Those that got them made a nice flip on them, that's for sure.

I doubt there's been a legitimate error on a star card since Graig Nettles' '81 Fleer card (considered a star at the time it was issued).
  • If you would like to see how the story played out in real time you can read this thread. The Ceo of Leaf posts info about his products and replies to questions. He takes a pretty good thumping from a few fcb board members, not sure why because he seems like a stand up guy.

I've sold cards to Brian. He pays quickly and is a stand up guy.

He bought the Leaf name a few years ago. I'm surprised none of the other card companies wanted it.

  • I might as well include the link where Brian the Ceo of Leaf made a full apology for the error. I don't think it was done intentionally, but who knows.

it's got to be highly embarrassing that the two spelling errors apparently got by 5 different people. As it was correctly pointed out in the 11-page thread, all companies make errors in their products. However, in a one-card release (with parallels), it shouldn't be hard to catch them. I understand them slipping through in a 800-card set, but a one-off is another story entirely.
