  • Anyone that trims cards, sells them, grades them, sells them while knowing and not disclosing is just plain rotten IMO. It's a nasty part of this industry. Thankfully I have only had a couple of bad seeds.

My memory isn't what it used to be, but wasn't this being sold by consignments?
  • Okay so moving along in the Collection...

Kobe Bryant? I have some of his rookies somewhere, can't find the scans right now. These I pulled myself last year out of cases I ripped. I did really well with the cases. I opened 1.5 Cases of National Treasures Basketball. I pulled 2 John Wall Auto's, one I got graded at the National came back a 9.5. At the time it was the second 9.5 to sell on Ebay. Rick sold it I believe for $2600, plus the other Wall raw sold for $1500. Sold off the other two boxes. Just 4 boxes per case, and 8 cards per box. I got the cases for $1500 each. I still have one here. So I was up a grand before all the other cards. I still have to sort through those. I have hundreds of cards to get graded.

So anyway these 5 Kobe's are Redemptions from National Treasures and Gold Standard. Yes I really did pull 4 Kobe Redemption Auto's plus the two Wall RC's out of 1.5 cases. I did very well, hence the reason I stopped halfway into the 2nd case. I had a really good streak last year with cases. I am sure you will remember the Orange Harper Auto my buddy and I pulled. Sell now, wait, sell later, idiot!!! lol, that was funny people where more stressed about than I was. It paid for 2 Chrome cases, I was pretty happy. Plus Harper and Goldschmidt PSA 10 regular issue cards did Awesome!!! Will be doing it again this year with the next up and comers.

There were a couple members who I walked through grading out cases of regular issue product. Fun stuff. Take a $5 card turn it into $20/$25... With modern cards usually with the PSA 9 you will get your money back for the grading fees etc. It's the 10's that you double, triple, quadruple or more your money on. I was floating at about 65% rate of PSA 10's for modern cards.

Anyway here are the 5... What's great is they are straight from Panini, so they are in as best condition as they could. The only BGS cards I've graded in the last 3 years was the Wall NT at the National and a Jordan Auto I pulled. I always use PSA.... modern or not...

So those are my Kobe Auto's from last year. I will probably grade them all and sell them, maybe keep one or two if it pulls a 10. image

You have an incredible collection Mike!

Thanks for sharing some real nice items.

  • All this modern crap..... All these darn Jersey, Auto's with stickers, Serial #'d, Patch, 4 Color Crap!!!! Lol, sometimes I think so. I started uploading my certs for my 1977 set. It moved right up to #18 all time only 30% into it, avg 8.5 or something I forget. I will post a few Beasts that were recently won, along with about 50 PSA 10's, a few 1/1's and low pops.

I also have a partial 72 set in all PSA 9, partial meaning like 15%.

The other set I started is the 56 in PSA 6 or better. I am 20% into it, and here are a few of the key cards...

So your the one that bought that 77 Topps Yount. Congratulations on a great looking card. I talked to Matt Huppertz and he had a very good reason he decided to sell it. I think he's a real class act. image

I've dealt with Matt in the past and he's one of the best around. In fact, when he beat me out for the 10, he gave me a good deal on his 9 from in a buy/trade deal because I had a Yount card he needed. Hopefully his reasons for selling weren't too serious.

And I'm happy the 10 is in a another good home!
  • Thanks guys. I figured it would make a nice highlight as I am building my 1977 set. I'm about a third of the way.. image

I second that. Matt has been very generous and helpful to me on my Robin Yount master set. It's not easy being in second place behind him, but the scraps he throws my way have been more then I would expect. I've had many unexpected packages just show up at my door only to find out that Matt took the time to go through both of our sets and give me cards that I needed.
  • This was pulled from one of the packs I opened last year that the boards here bought me as a gift. Was a really meaningfull gesture. I still have the original sheet Steve printed off, and all the packs... This was a nice pull, will never part with this one.

    image

Figured I didn't have one of these, and after the PSA 10 went for 20K, I wanted to get a 9 before they went to $450 plus. I think I got it for $300. Beautiful example.

Mike, if you picked up that Smith recently, you really scored at $300. I think VCP on that card is pretty close to $450 now. Congrats!
