I dont have a scale. Someone told me to look over at Ken Potters site. He has some listed...not 1996 though. The copper plating becomes contaminated when some zinc pennies get left in the tank. He sells them for $45.00 to $95.00 so i guess its worth a few dollars.
Give it the "ring test" done by "flipping the coin" and listening for whether it rings like a pre-82 copper cent or has a muted/flat sound like a zincoln.
I have one just like this. I got it in change about a month ago. It's currently at my place of employment. I'll bring it home tonight and weigh it on my jewelry scale. I think it is plated thogh, there is a small area on mine where the color is wore off.
its costing me alot of money to send in coins for attribution. i send them into CONECA,Wexler and the boys over at Lincoln Cent Forum. $35.00 here...$40.00 there...$35.00 again and the postage both ways and before you know it we are talking some good beer money. If possible I like to hear what others think before i send them in. Another note is that the attributors only accept about 5 coins and I always have way way more than that to send in so it could take alot of time to have them all looked at.
I wouldn't spend the money on it. I don't believe it's an error.

Listen to Fred. The composition of the copper plating can vary slightly without going out of spec, sometimes you can end up with a coin that looks brassier than a typical zincoln. This happened quite often in the early years of this composition, and for a while some dealers marketed "brass-plated" cents as a novelty or Mint error. In general these are not collected as error coins and do not realize any premiums.

No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
a lot of inquiries would be solved in this forum by simply submitting items like this to the guys over on the coneca list
for the few bucks it costs, seems like it would be worth all the curiosity and time spent thinking about these types of items
i recommend getting a small group if possible to help the per-coin cost average
also when/if results are found, please remember to post them here!
