More Anomalies on Silver Eagles in Set

link

“Some of the 2011 Eagles in the anniversary set (approximately 15 percent of my samples so far)
exhibit micro doubling on the bottom of Liberty’s skirt and the lower ray. Additionally the ‘20’ of the
date is fat at the top giving the appearance of distended hub doubling.”

  • Now there is a difference, I have 2 of 6 of them how many of these could there be out there? 20k to 30k of them. He was trying to find a way to tell the difference between regular bullion and the set bullion but, he could have done one better! I hope this pans out

Pans out to what? I don't get it. What's the big deal about micro doubling on 15% of the authors coins?

  • Are there regular bullion with this mark? If there is not, you would have a bullion variety of 15 to 20K struck. This would be 1/3rd the strike of the 2007 reverse wouldn't it?

Because it's a VARIETY DDO coin and some people get very excited about such things.Especially error/variety collectors.Especially on a coin with only 100,000 mintage.....Especially on a coin minted in SF.....Especially being the very first known DDO or DDR in the entire Silver Eagle Series.....And if you have this coin in your set....then you now have 3 UNIQUE coins, only available in this set.
    Thats Why

I know some collectors get very excited over these micro details, and certainly they are entitled. For me though, I prefer the clearly different anomalies (i.e. the major '55 DDO). All in personal preferences... image Cheers, RickO

While what you say is true it should be noted that the Rev of 2007 is a naked eye variety and the "doubling" on the new coin is the level right above "not perceivable" in the importance range and will only appeal to the people who were already fanatical about the issue anyway. I don't think it will bring collectors form outside the set into the fold nor will it be a mush have for the set guys which is the trigger that makes values really go above normal. There are people who bought the 95w who don't collect ASE and the same can be said for the Rev of 07

  • What we really need is to find a marker on the bullion coins that coincides with the S mm coin. Finding a marker common to both coins would be a clear cut and definite proof that it was minted on burnished blanks. the article above seems to concentrate on the fact that we need a marker to distinguish the bullion coins that came from the set but the bigger picture here is to find a marker that provides conclusive eveidence the bullion coin was minted on burnished blanks

If we can find just one definite marker then all bets are off

Actually, CONECA has two doubled die listings for ASEs. Link

  • All I am saying is, these 15K or so now can be marked as part of the 25th set out of the mint packaging when sent in loose! That alone should make them worth more then the ones without this marking right? I am not looking for a $1,000 coin just a premium on knowing those are absolutely from that set! AS LONG AS NONE OF THE REGULAR NON SET BULLION COINS HAVE THIS MARKING
  • Thanks Brett..Both listings are proof coins i see.
