Not sure about that. The black or toomstone label, does have the fs designation, but no Mercanti signature. I may be wrong though.

What about the Tombstone Label? Are they all fs?
<< <i>Not trying to hijack this board but I just wanna make a point... IMO as a new collector/grader and new member to our host I find this chasing the labels game mind numbing! This is flat out ridiculous. When I sent in my lone 25th anniversary set I was not given options on the label. Yes my set was FS eligible so I got the flag label but I was under the impression that there were three labels... flag mercanti and non FS (blue?). Man was I naive >>
In order to have qualified for the Mercanti label fs, a minimum of 5 sets at a grading cost of $250 per set, had to be submitted. The minimum requirement for the Mercanti Flag label, I've been told, is considerable higher.

The simple answer is "yes," because so-called Black Label and non-FS are not mutually exclusive! To get the Black Label or Mercanti signtaure, you simply have to submit at least 5 sets and pay the appropriate fee. To get FS, your sets have to be in a box dated before the deadline (I believe that is 12/7 or 12/8). The Black Label and Mercantis are FS eligible, but they still have to meet the FS criteria to receive the FS designation. If you buy Black Label or Mercanti, and your box is dated after the cutoff -- voila, you have non-FS Black Label or Mercanti slabs!

While I agree that there are probably a few too many labels for this one set, I think it's a little unfair to count each FS on an existing label as a separate label in order to make the point. Other than the well known flag FS label, all of the others are merely FS designations on existing labels, rather than unique labels onto themselves.

Not really. The whole point would seem to be an illustration of distinction without a difference, of which this is a fantastic example.
