Fireball Toned Morgans - If you got'em, Post 'em.

Well, I don't actually have this one anymore but one of the coolest I have seen. Some textile on it to boot.
I wanna see your best. Come on AB and Lloyd.

I have a newly found greater appreciation for high grade textiles, now knowing how close in proximity to dangerous gnawing rodents they where!
<< <i>PCGS MS63 due to marks, but still my favorite I own.
Honestly, i wouldnt be so sure it was only due to the marks...
Is it OK to post another? If not, my apology. if so, here is a raw Morgan I picked up and sent to PCGS. Graded MS64 (a bit surprising. I thought it would only go MS63):

See - my point exactly! They rewarded the color in this instance , penalized it in the other.

Hm, but both seem equally attractive unless you're suggesting the 63 is questionably MA?

What about the difference in strike quality?

What about the difference in strike quality? >>
PCGS barely notices strike on Morgans in the 63/64 range. Strike is about 5th on the priority list when grading classic coins.

Besides surface marks and luster, what else is considered in grading classic coins ahead of strike quality?

In my experience:
1) surface frost/sheen on devices
2) luster
3) overall eye appeal
4) bagmarks
5) hairlines, rub, etc
THEN strike.
it is posts like this that makes this forum great.
Picked this one up tonight off the bay. Should be a nice one. I really think it's NT. PCI slab

Eye appeal is subjective so it should not factor in. Thats why PCGS has no real standards and its all a shell game. Each grader has differnt ideas as to the eye appeal of a given coin.

The basics of eye appeal are not subjective. Vibrant toning beats dark toning. Electric blue is always attractive. Periphrial toning with light centers are a plus. Just because a few object, doesn't mean that the market doesn't predominantly appreciate certain looks.
