How do you cancel a bid from a (0) feedback bidder?

jmski52jmski52 Posts: 23,129 ✭✭✭✭✭
I thought I had the conditions set on the auction, but apparently not. Is there a way to cancel a bid from a (0) feedback bidder that show up after the auction is well-underway?

Thanks for any help.

  • Yes , you can.Got to ebays site map and sniff around , its there somewhere , use the search function , thats how i found it.Probably block the 0 bidder too so you dont get last minute snipes.

I don't have a link handy, but if you just search "cancel bid" the eBay help is pretty straight-forward with the steps/links to get you to the cancel screen. That said, plenty of new bidders are just fine. I have more problems with established bidders than newbies.

I think ebay no longer allows you to block zero bidders.

Correct .... zero bidders is not a parameter available for blocking bids. BTW, I don't believe they ever were.

Well, I had a (0) bidder trash 6 of my auctions at one time, in addition to sending me a note that threatened my family about 5 years ago. Ebay never gave me any feedback of the disposition of this, so I did block (0) feedback bidders at that time. I stopped selling on ebay for a long time after that.

I just didn't know if I could still set that parameter.

You can still cancel any bid though if there's more than 12 hours to go though..right?

Go to the Customer Support menu and type "cancel bid". It will list the items you have currently on sale and you should be able to cancel the bids from there. MM

eBay has never allowed us to block zero feedback bidders.

  • Im pretty sure they did Russ , there was something that could be set along the lines of minimum feedback before a bid is allowed.I can't really comment beyond that as i didnt use it , but ive seen it.

Everyone that buys or sells on eBay had a zero feedback at one time. Not sure why you want to block him. Just don't ship until he pays.

I did use that feature at one time, see above.

I know, Perry. My previous experience wasn't good, see above note.

Unless you're suspicious for unrelated reasons, some of the best buyers are zero feedback bidders.

Nope. We've never had the ability to block zero feedback bidders. We have had the ability to block bidders with a negative feedback number such as -2. Of course, that's pretty useless. We also have the ability to limit the number of purchases from low feedback bidders.

As mentioned, everybody who ebays had to start at zero. With that said we have had countless buyers at zero or there abouts, nary a problem with one.

You can also set your parameters to block bidders who:

    Don't have a PayPal account
    Have received 2 Unpaid Item strike(s) within 1 Month(s)
Have a primary shipping address in a location I don't ship to
    Have 4 Policy Violation report(s) within 1 Month(s)
Have a feedback score of -1 or lower (This one is useless since eBay no longer allows neg fb given to buyers)

Zero feed back is not now and never has been an option.

  • I believe it is correct that you can't block them. I had an auction won by a 0 bidder who paid immediately and was paypal approved. The transaction turned out fine, but he did not reply to any emails or feedback and this made me uncomfortable with a $1700 item. My opinion is that I would sell again to a 0 feedback buyer, but will insist on some communication prior to sending the item. I don't think it unreasonable to want to verify the buyer, especially if you've had a bad experience.

You can always cancel the auction if you are worried.

Justified or not, a (0) feedback high bid also looks like a potential shill bid. I didn't want that. I do think that new ebayers should work their way up the price scale, but that's just my own opinion.

Ebay has stacked everything against sellers, in terms of feedback. Every time I've had an issue with ebay, it becomes a painful exercise in futility. There's really no good way to navigate their mess. All you can do is hope, and try not to step on too many toes.

    To each their own.
I may be a tad more nervous when I have had 0 feedback buyers bid on my items, due to them possibly being new and not knowing the ropes or having been booted for some reason and now starting again, but I have never been paranoid enough to want to block them or think they look like shills.

I actually would suspect a bidder with feedback to be more of a shill as many of the shilling sellers will build an account with feedback to look less suspicious.

Anyway, it's your auction and your worries, but I think a number of folks would do it differently, and have.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

It's definitely not the ebay it used to be and sellers are stacked against. I have two accounts, a buyers account and a sellers account, all 100% feedback but my seller account only has 20+ feedback because I chose to separate it out from buying. I'm sure there are some who would not be comfortable buying from me even now with that low count. That's why I try to communicate friendly emails and respond to any questions, leave feedback first, etc. and cover all the bases with insurance, sign conf, etc. Maybe you should email the buyer with 0 feedback and ask some questions before you cancel, just a thought.

I personally, never had any problems with a zero feedback bidder who won on of my auctions. I have had several. Knock on wood.

By "WE", I'm sure he means eBay (not sleaze bay, BTW) sellers. I wouldn't have thought it'd have been that hard to figure out, but I suppose I could be wrong.
