And THAT is why people will continue to price things at 10x the selling price - just waiting for the one buyer to snap it up who is not cognizant of recent selling prices!

I will mark this one down as my bonehead move of the month.

I thought you were posting the link to a Pete Rose card that was mispriced and in my haste hit the buy it now and paid.

Obviously it is not a Pete Rose. I sent an email to see if he would cancel and I see I already have feedback so that must mean no.

All I can do is just laugh at this point.

Here is what I wrote him:

    Dear codyp2000,

I made an honest mistake and quickly hit the button thinking it was the Pete Rose card from this set. I do not collect these at all and after I paid I realized it was not the Pete Rose card. If you would consider canceling this transaction that would be very much appreciated. If you will not there is nothing I can do. Thank you for your consideration and if we must move forward it is just a costly error on my part. - dpeck100

    Dear codyp2000,

I see you already left feedback so I guess the answer to my request for a refund is no. This was my error so not to worry I won't leave poor feedback or ding your stars. It does suck to buy a $15 card for $150 but life goes on. Thanks - dpeck100

Like I said before all I can do is just laugh at myself and hope this is the dumbest thing I do for a while.

If anyone wants the card once I get it just PM me and I will send it to you for free so I don't have to be reminded I just flushed $150 down the toilet.

It could also be automatic feedback from when you paid. Would you have been so eager to let him off if it was a Rose?

Since you paid immediately for the "Rose" that you knew without a doubt was an obvious listing error, it seems to me you were hoping the seller might feel forced to sell you the "Rose" at the listed price. How much would you have pushed for the seller to do the right thing, at least in your eyes? If the seller refused would there be a new "what would you do" thread ultimately backfiring in the OP's face? But it's not a Rose, and whatever reason the seller had for pricing it the way he did you snapped it up.

DPECK!!! DON'T YOU DARE PAY FOR THAT CARD!! That seller was just hoping someone would make that mistake. If you pay for the card, then you are just condoning that kind of behavior!!!!

First of all I would not dream of starting one of those threads.

Second of all I sat there right after I paid thinking there is no way the guy will complete the transaction. I did not realize it was even not a Pete Rose until a few more messages in this thread.

I thought it was a good gamble, I just did not spend enough time looking at the listing.

I am a big boy and made a profit seeking gamble that clearly was stupid and that is life.

There was nothing misleading about the listing and I take full responsiblity for my mishap.

Why pay for the card? At most, why not just pay his fees, plus maybe $5 extra for his trouble?
  • If I had done what DPeck did, I would have told the board about it too. Everyone should be able to laugh at themselves every now and then. It's healthy.

    Good sport

    thanks for the laughs.

I thought the card was the Pete Rose too. I went in thinking he meant the decimal point being in the wrong direction would mean the other way and I should be looking for a 1500 card. As soon as as I saw the 63 card, Rose went off in my mind.

I'll bet you hear back from the seller and he lets you bail. I don't see anyone thinking this would be the Rose without first seeing the title of this thread IMO

During the 2008 Olympics I was watching a race and when this swimmer won the Gold Medal I went to see if there were any of her autographs on ebay. I saw a photo and it was $19.99 and I thought that it was too good to pass up, being that it was the only one. I hit the BIN and within ten seconds I saw in big bold letters "A BEAUTIFUL REPRINT OF A SIGNED PHOTO OF STEPHANIE RICE". So, for $20 I got a nice preprint signed photo. You live and learn. I'd have spent that money on booze or something...

Now I feel bad. Sorry Dpeck, I should have made it more clear in the sentence above the picture. I can't believe you bought it so fast! So fast in fact my next response was too late! It's been on eBay for a few days, I thought the boards would get a laugh, not someone out $150. Great sense of humor though and I hope we all learned something. image

Yea....now this seller is gonna load up even more overpriced "gems" on Ebay. I can pciture common "look-a-like" cards being listed for $300, when they should be no higher than $5.

The guy on the left favors Tom Seaver a little bit. And even better, his first name is Tom as well....maybe someone will give me $500 for this card....let me list it!

    image
  • If those negatives he received are indeed true, that' one thing. The way he replied to them, what an ass. DPeck, I'm not sure why you're not even considering a refund but that's your choice. Personally, I get my money back.
