Need help identifying this token

This came into my store today. Would appreciate anyones help in identifying what it is:

    It's a California Counter.

    Really, that's how it's referred to.

    Its a type of spielmark, more play money. It's also one of the most highly sought-after types, given its association with the gold rush, etc. I'd guess that yours is worth some tens of dollars, even in that condition.

    A game counter with an obverse design similar to the U.S. Double Eagle struck in brass.

    Think of it as a modern poker chip. "Counters" were used to keep score in card games, even games that nowadays would be kept score on a pad of paper. Paper was a luxury item back then.
