    Presidential campaign buttons

This one showed Teddy Roosevlt and William Howard Taft as good friends in 1908 ...

    image

BUT ... This one was from Teddy Roosevelt's announcement that "My hat is in the ring" as the Bull Moose candidate in the 1912 election.

    image

And here is a pretty 1904 button for Teddy "Rose" - Velt. The early buttons had some excellent artwork.

    image

And then I've got a moden train lay-out.

    "Ye Olde Mint"

    image

    And a look "up town."

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  • Vintage arcade games image! You can buy working games for as cheap as $100 and nice fully functioning games from $300 to $1500 (some uber-rare games are worth more, but they were rare in the 70s and 80s so I never saw them and have no interest in them). The wife would love for me to sell the games to focus on coins as they take up a lot less space image

(not mine in the pic, but I have the same Disc of Tron machine in my garage)

    Stoneware, mainly ironstone.

Bought a rare ironstone chicken this month - only the 2nd one I've seen in 40 years of collecting. image

I have collected a wife and two children [one now in college and one in his senior year of high school at a private school]. Needless to say, my resources are tied up and and devoted to the three of them. Thus I can not afford to collect much else [other than an occasional coin].

... or this ca. 1848-1852 Sam Houston autograph, cut from a letter to F.B. Sublett.

    Reading:
"... to get them for less.
    Give our kind regards
to your Ma, & the boys.
    Truly thine,

    [signed] Sam Houston

    F B Subletts
    San Augustine
    Texas

Franklin B. Sublett was born in San Augustine in 1828, and left San Augustine County for Trinity County in the early 1850's. In addition to practicing law, Sublett developed a large and prosperous plantation. By 1860 he owned 80,000 acres, the largest landholdings in Trinity County, and 117 slaves. He was thus among the largest slaveholders in Texas on the eve of the Civil War. During the war Sublett served as a brigadier general in the Third District, Texas State Troops and as lieutenant colonel, Second Infantry, Texas State Troops.

This letter from Sam Houston can be approximately dated to 1848-1852 (when Houston was serving in the Senate), due to it's being addressed to Sublett at San Augustine.

Perhaps I should open the arcade up for beer and games after the next FUN show here in O-town. I guess I'll take a silver commemorative half as admission, but the the games are all free to play image.

    << <i>No Galaga?? I love that game! >>

It's a $250 game working, but $800 in pristine shape... I love Galaga, but I've played it so many times at this point I have no interest in owning the game. Trust me, once you start collecting arcade games you quickly realize just how valuable extra space, and a patient wife image, truly are.

I collect all kinds of stuff. So many that it's hard to balance my spending. Spend too much on one genre and you can't collect the others well.

I have a bunch of old Atari games that I can't show (no photo).

I also do comicbooks. I'd rather have a low grade key comicbook than a higher grade more common book:

First detailed origin of Batman. In this one, he learns the identity of his parent's killers, tracks him down, and reveals his own identity to the guy:

    image

First Wendy the Witch. Meets Casper the first time too:

    image

    First X-men...really dogged copy:

    image

    First Dr. Octopus...early Spiderman:

    image

Second Hulk, 1st time he was green (the Hulk #1 portrayed him as gray):

    image

I'm loving currency. Only been doing it about 6 months or so:

    image

    image

I also collect old telescopes. The largest one is modern:

    image

This is an old Vixen I bought recently:

    image

    Minibikes:

    image

A couple of junky VWs (the other one...not shown...is a '62 ragtop beetle):

    image

    image

I also have some misc. toys and artwork.

I need help. Somebody help me. image

Karma Van....though VW folks call it a bus.

Fun to drive. Fun to camp in with the family. Fun to tinker with. Hauls a lot of stuff, like a washer and a dryer without even laying them down.
