Man ... that is nice! If Steve gave the board the discount and the packs went for $487.50, not a bad deal, considering that a few people will get packs with stars on top. Too bad it was not a 2nd Series box!

Got past the initial emotional reaction and did some homework.
A PSA 7 Pack Series 1 pack with Drysdale on top and Ford on the back sold in January 2011 for $334.
I know a full box commands a premium, but this is a 45% premium (assuming 10% discount is possible).
There are some decent names in series 1, but very few individual cards that would cover the cost of a pack if you ripped it and pulled a PSA 9.
It's an awesome box, and given the rarity I am sure Steve paid a hefty price for it. Still, I'm inclined to pass at this level. Even with 10% it's $7400 over the cost of 48 PSA 7 star packs.

I bought that ford / drysdale pack as I happened to run across it looking for something else. I sold it to a board member here for about the average price of a pack in steve's box with 10% discount a month later.
regarding the box, it would be a shame to break it up. 67 packs come up fairly regularly but complete boxes have become near extinct. the box is worth more (and priced higher) intact

I've heard that someone has half a case of high number 1970 wax boxes sitting around. This was several years ago so I don't know if it's been broken up since then. However, they are still out there.
The Ryan was an 8. Haven't sent everything in yet but I figure, all in, I'm probably down a couple of grand for what I paid. But it was like taking two trips to Tahiti opening that thing, so it was worth it. Got every star in the series in duplicates and triplicates except no Aarons or Benches or Frank Robby. And few All-Stars but did get the Aaron All-Star.
Sorry I petered out on showing the rip but it was mentally draining!!
