Has anyone ever done business with "wastenot-wantnot2010" on eBay?

I am looking at a lot of raw cards this seller has, but he has the following disclaimer:
"*All cards are guaranteed authentic;but some cards may have been trimmed or altered(never by me)"
I sent him a message on eBay asking him to explain this disclaimer, and this was his response:
"No,I haven't measured them, but am happy to if there is something specific you're looking for.If I have owned a card since day one,I guarantee it completely. The bulk of these cards are bought at auction or purchased in lots ,and are simply over-spill from my "too-large"collection.So I am comfortable guaranteeing the authenticity of the cards, but I can't speak to subtle alterations made by others. If there is an obvious alteration ,I will disclose it in the listing(marks,etc.).But as I don't typically measure cards when I purchase,I may not even recognize the alteration until it's pointed out to me. I collect graded cards mostly,.and usually sell off any raw ones I get.
Let me know if you have specific questions on the cards"
Now, most of the cards he sells are graded, and many of the higher-end raw cards he has listed do not have the disclaimer about trimming or alteration. I'm not looking to accuse anyone of anything, I just see some red flags.

<< <i>I would be careful what you buy from them. It sounds like they know things have been altered.

This is my inclination, I just didn't know if anyone had insight on the seller.
No one leaves some of those cards raw unless
A: They don't grade
B: They are lying and have already sent the cards in for grading or deemed them altered/unauthentic etc
And judging by the fact that the majority of his auctions are graded... I'd have to go with B.
When someone adds a disclaimer like that you can be almost certain it's for a good reason.
I would avoid this sellers auctions at all cost. Why risk it. Im sure whatever card it is youre looking for, itll show up again sooner or later. Doesnt sound like it worth taking a chance and possibly loosing your money.
<< <i>I wish this seller did not list tons of baseball cards in the non sports Collectibles / trading cards vs the correct Sports / cards category. I am not sure his motivation but skeptical. >>
Might just be lazy - When I list on ebay I use a template that has baseball marked regardless of the sport and it seriously triples the listing time it takes to list something. But I also only list like 10 auctions at a time so it's not a huge deal.
Think it through, not many people know all the particulars that are associated with a piece of cardboard that in all likelihood has been handled by hundreds of people.
I took the time to see how you represented your raw listings. They say nothing about authenticity or alterations and you have a stated no return policy. Interesting!!!
He is simply saying HE doesn't trim/alter cards. He might be selling them though.
Either way, buying raw cards is much more problematic than graded. I don't buy much raw anymore, unless it's something cheap.

<< <i>Sounds like one of two things to me, or possibly both. He buys lots of cards and doesn't inspect every one so he cannot personally guarantee them, he's just covering his a$$, OR he submits cards to be graded and they come back rejected and he still wants to sell them. I recently resubmitted a card that came back "evid of trim" and now it's a 5. Perhaps he doesn't want to play the resub game.

yeah, he might just be a regular guy who has gotten a few back from buyers as altered, and wants to be clear that he doesn't check for that.

My favorite is when a buyer says that a card is trimmed, and when I send it in, I get a number grade!! Score one for me!!
I don't find anything wrong with his disclaimer. All he's saying is he isn't knowingly going to send you an altered card. He's not an expert on catching everything so if something gets through don't blame him. There's a return policy so just send the card back. Every raw seller on Ebay, expert or not, could possibly send you a card that a grader might not like for some reason. Good sellers are aware that this can happen and will take returns. I wouldn't want to buy from a seller who claims nothing they sell could ever possibly be altered and therefore that's why they have a no return policy.

I also have purchased a raw card from them as well. The raw card I purchased I sent in for grading and it came back a PSA 9 w/o qualifiers.
I am guessing by the seller adding
"All cards are guaranteed authentic;but some cards may have been trimmed or altered(never by me)"
in the listing is a disclaimer to cover their arse. I believe the seller buys and flips and doesn't send stuff in for grading.
