What happened to this SLQ? - More images added!
Looking for some answers as to what is wrong with this Standing Liberty Quarter and what could have caused it.
It has a nice strike and looks very good in hand once you get past the brown color.
Is this some kind of corrosion, and if so, from what.
I have included 2 images of the obverse and the reverse with different lighting angles so that you can see the detail better.
Please note that the light mark on the wing of the reverse and the white spots on the obverse are on the holder, not the coin.
Cheers !

what a beauty
i don't know what caused it, just wanted to comment
after looking at this little lady sure makes me wish there were a copper trial/pattern strike of this coin!
.
I wish it were for sale. I'd love to own it.
I dug it out the other day and was just amazed how good it looks in hand and again started wondering what could have caused this.
It is in an ANACS holder that claims "Corrosion" but I have yet to find any explaination for it.
It also says "UNC DETAILS AU55" but it sure looks MS to me. Anyway, I love this coins and really would like to know more about it.
Cheers!

Wow! Nice strike!!! Full toes?
I have seen this color on a few of these early SLQ's and some I know were original, others left me queasy. I can't decide what is going on here. I like it, I don't like it... It first struck me as secondary tone but I can't say from here. There are no other colors at all?
Best wishes,
Eric

You caught that, too. Everyone always looks at the head, but how many of these actually have "Full Toes"? Maybe there should be a new designation?
Well here are 2 more images of this coin. The first is of the entire holder. The second is yet another image of the obverse that I took with the addition of a clear 60watt incandescent light to try to bring out more of the color changes that are present but very subtle. I still can't capture the somewhat iridescence that you can see in hand.
