Pronged Holders and Set Appearance Uniformity - and maybe an idea for the next Quarterly Special

OK, so let it be known that I am just a little bit OCD. When I heard about the new proged holders, my gut reaction was dismay. I mean, how am I supposed to send ANY coins to PCGS from here on out?

So, the real issue here is that I just want all the coins in my holders to have a uniform look. And the cost of reslabbing is high, so how could I justify spending $xxxx to get everything "uniform"?

So, perhaps if there were a quarterly special that addressed the quiet need for OCD collectors to have it all the same, I might just be inclined to do that.

Anyone else feel this way?

I totally agree... Hopefully one day, they can go back using the original inserts.

uniformity is nice

but i prefer the prongs over the old gaskets. they could have left the old ones alone and i would have been fine but now i've seen the new ones, out with the old!

i don't know the value of your items but if you send a lot in at once it will decrease the cost per item quite a bit as it will average out.

if you are happiest having them all the same decide how much cost re-slabbing will add to each item and go from there

I remember when the "Rattler" was the current holder. Then PCGS came out with the new style holder and for awhile PCGS gave you the option to send in for reholder in the new style holder for $3 per coin I think it was.

I sent everything I had in for reholder.

Now I wish I had those rattlers back.

Every few years PCGS changes the slab and think how much more revenue it brings in . What is the stock ticker?

So am I, but any of the post-Rattler PCGS holders are uniform enough for my taste.

I would pay EXTRA to have the option of the old round hole holders.

I very much dislike the new holders as the plastic prongs obscure part of the face of the coin -- making a clean in-the-slab photograph, impossible.

I have only 1 coin left to complete my B type set and I really don't want the last coin to be in a prong holder, I wonder if the secure plus has changed to the new holders? I still cannot understand NO announcement from our host concerning these. If you as a company had a new product coming out, would you not advertise it? There has already been a few people who got these back and had NO idea that is what they were going to get. Why does it seem to be a big secret? I did see our host post in another thread that YES even coins in secure plus holders can get sent back in for the + . I really thought paying for secure plus the first time that the coin has the highest grade on it, guess not and it seems like we have to keep sending these back? Not ME.............................Enjoy

If I'm not mistaken, you can still request the prong less holder on your submission form while supplies last. There's another thread here where we all ranted against the prongs.

I don't like NGC slabs overall, but their pronged holder is better looking than the PCGS "radiation symbol" prongs.


How much could a plastic ring cost? Why not give submitters the option?

You are correct, just got off the phone and was told you can still MAYBE get a regular holder while supplies last, and than you have NO Choice and even Secure plus is going to prongs.........Bummer Enjoy

If I went through my set right now I see doilys, rattlers, 2 part holders, different 2 part holders, the new holder (less prong), slightly older new non prong holders, and some slightly older than the slightly old one.

I guess it doesn't bother me.

I dislike the new prong holder. It no longer covers all the sides but it covers a large portion of the front of the rim. Not much of an improvement if you ask me, and it is more distracting.

I like the fact that pronged holders will eliminate the possibility of a split coin being inside. Also I like viewing the third side of a coin, at least partially, for design details, rim bumps, discoloration, wear, etc.
