and are .999 fine. I have seen and handled 100's of Modern Silver Commemoratives that are 90% Silver and never seen a single one of them spot in the way the above mentioned do (White Milk Spots) imageimageimage

So do you think that .999 vs 90% has anything to do with the spotting problem?

Just thinking out loud, GrandAm imageimageimage

I want to officially claim the $50,000 reward from PCGS for solving the spotting problem. image

All I have to do is get The US Mint to change from .999 fine silver to 90% silver the same as Modern Commemorative Coins are. They must also increase the planchet size by 10% so as to still have 1 oz of silver in the coin

I don't think it's metal content as much as I think that its final rinse just prior to minting as there are some seriously milk spotted 90% Kennedy Half Proofs.

I thought I read somewhere that milk spots were the result of how the blanks were washed/treated prior to being struck? I don't think .999 vs .900 matters.

Well the rinse process has been talked about for years. WHY doesn't the Mint get the planchet supplier to change the rinse method of Silver Eagles to the same way the Commemoratives are done?

I don't think there is much argumnet that this problem is pretty much a non-issue with the commemoratives.

I use to collect Silver Eagles but sold them all in frustration over the spotting issue.

  • My claim goes NOT to the rince of these but to the Grease between the rollers when the slabs are rolled and flattened to eventually produce strip.Once this foreign material gets int the strip there is no way to get out and oil or grease even after the rinsing...!!
