That's asinine. Anyone that wanted to help the homeless in W. Africa would be much better
off using that wealth to help the locals grow crops, dig wells and raise farm animals for food.

Giving food to the homeless is no solution. It's a waste of money and effort and food. If you
cannot help the people help themselves there will be no solution.

That's why there is a Peace Corps and many other fine folks that help raise people up from
    their boot straps.

    My humble opinion,

something smells extra scammy from their website:

    http://www.wfao.us/

a 300 million 'donation' and they use godaddy for their website design? a 'gold division' of an NGO? this appears to be a for-profit business trying to greenwash their operations. i'd rather buy my gold from craigslist.

I agree with AUandAG.... giving food (except in time of disaster or temporary need) is a waste of food and money. Teach people to farm etc., teach them skills needed to work, give them the tools to be independent. Otherwise you have perpetual welfare (and we sure know what that looks like.). Cheers, RickO

this scam aside, most int'l aid organizations do prioritize skills development, and food aid is now almost exclusively given only in emergency situations after aid mistakes of the 1980s and 1990s. aside from a few bloated parts of the UN, there's not a lot of waste in international aid initiatives - and their budgets are a lot smaller than most believe.

ricko and AU - to play devil's advocate, if someone is homeless, what exactly will they farm on? image

How about teaching them to produce something that somebody else needs? Or build something that
helps someone else? Or, manage a few people to do a co-op business. The list is endless and I'll tell
you that they would rather earn their food than be given it (human desire and human nature). An
acre of land and a bit of water would produce a huge income for them. Teach them to dig a well or
drill a well and irrigate the land. The list goes on and on.

Or teach them how to play basketball.

Now THAT'S how you do a gold scam!
