Paypal question -

A little OT here but I need some advice.

I'm selling our refrigerator, a very nice one, for $1200. Posted it on Craigslist and got this email response:

"i want to ask you some questions about
this item,1)Why are you selling the item?2)What's the present
condition of the item,3)Are you the first owner,4?Am buying it for my
personal use,so i will be paying you through paypal as am currently
out of town and i can only send money out from here through paypal,i
have a pickup agent that will be coming for the pickup as soon as the
payment has been send for it,so kindly send me your paypal email
address to send you the money now..I await your fast response.."

Do I need to be concerned here? If the money arrives via Paypal is it "safe" to let the refrigerator go? Is it safe to give out Paypal email, address to a Craigslist total stranger?

No IHOP comments please!!!

Thanks,

Mark

Please send the paypal to your agent and instruct him to bring cash.

    Thanks

If you accept the Paypal payment, how are you going to prove to Paypal that it was delivered once
the item is picked up in person?

That would be my concern and I wouldn't even do it. Why doesn't the potential buyer Paypal
his agent (pickup person) and have that person give you cash instead?

Edit: Zep beat me to it.
  • I think if he pays by Paypal he can file a claim saying he never received his merchandise, and you will not have any proof otherwise.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

  • If the guy pays with paypal he has to pick-up. If he sends somebody else and even if they give you a reciept stating they picked it up the id will not match the paypal's user id therefore he can file a paypal claim saying he never recieved item.

'Am buying it for my personal use'?
    'pickup agent'?
    'Await your fast response'?

Who uses terminology like that in this country???

Scam all the way. Walk away.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Also, if you were asking all those questions about a product, wouldn't you want to wait for the answers before telling the seller to send you his info so he can "send you the money NOW"????????

All the responses above are great! As soon as you tell him to paypal the money to a friend and have the friend pay you in cash ..... say ADIOS to that scammer!!!!! If you do send him your paypal addy, say adios to your fridge AND the money!

  • Just to add to what has been said by others; It does not matter if it is the person who sent the PP or his "agent" that picks it up, there will be no record of delivery to avoid an INR claim. Just getting the person to sign something will not work with PP in the event of a claim.

Why not make it easier? I never authorized this payment..Case closed money refunded.

Do not take PP. Cash only.

    Let's break this down
    1. Poor grammar
    2. More poor grammar
    3. "Out of town", who purchases a refridgerator and hires a "pickup agent"?
    4. "I await your fast response" O....K.........

Very common scam. Bottom line is when selling something to someone in person only take cash for the item.

In what way is the fact that he wants to buy it for his personal use related to ANY of the rest of that?
