Why is Paypal changing payment....

drwstr123drwstr123 Posts: 7,049 ✭✭✭✭✭
Why is Paypal changing payment options from my bank to my credit card? They only give the option of an echeck from my account, not auto withdrawal.
The push appears to be towards the 'Bill me Later' choice.

Comments

  • I know. They have been really pushing the bill me latter and the echeck super hard lately
but I can't tell ya why. Sure wish someone knew. Might be they have to pay more to the
    cc companies than before.

Because they will make more $$$ if you use one of those options.

Yeah, I bought a couple of items via paypal last night from a seller where I used to just go CC instant payment, but that option was gone. I went echeck, so now it will take a while to clear.

I wonder if PP wants to charge sellers more for the CC transfer and unless / until the seller signs up for it, the default is the echeck

    -or-

instant payment CC via PP Mastercard is what they are pushing

When I look at my PP info, it says under "How can I make instant payments?" that "Credit card - Credit card payments are always instant."

I didn't see instant CC payment option last nite, so who knows

"buy now.... because it's in our interest that you pay later" Don't Pay, Pal. Not just yet, anyway !

I just went through one and I could change to a CC. Just had to hit the tiny link next to instant payment and the CC option appeared. I will never buy anything over $50 off of eBay using my bank account

Ridiculous. In the end, it's about them. Force people into "Bill me later" and not everyone will pay up on time leading to cashing in on the interest. There has to be an upstart somewhere that could eventually compete with the ebay/paypal collusion.

These moves are what lead to a huge windfall. It only temporarily works. It may be 2 years, or it may be 20 years, but them taking advantage of their near monopoly will cuase an upstart to come from nowhere and knock them off. Who and when, who knows.

They are not. You still have the options to pay via the linked bank account, existing PayPal balance or linked cc. Bill me later is just another option that unfortunately is the default payment method. If you don't want bml, change the option...it's as simple as that.

Just now paid for something. I had three choices. Echeck, BML, or credit card on file. Would not let me use my bank account on file.

  • If those are the only 3 ways to pay Its back to emailing the seller and setting up private pay with a money order. If they are so bent on making us jump through 12 hoops then I have no reason to play by their rules.

Agreed. I was thinking about advertising "only paypal" when I start selling later in the year, but I may go ahead and open the money order option and even encourage it.

I just asked the question in their "checkout" forum and posed the thought that their hope is to drive people into BML and have a bunch of people running revolving debt. Wonder if I'll get NARU'd for the question.

PayPal always makes stupid changes. Yesterday I tried to make a partial refund to a buyer but can't do that. I can only make a full refund. I can't believe it.

I don't buy much from Ebay because of having to use PP. I've been looking for some Lincolns lately and most sellers only take PP. I refuse to use it. I realize my decission hurts me, but it also may hurt sellers due to the fact I would have purchased coins from them had it not been for them limiting my payments to PP.

No one is limited to Paypal. They can only advertise electronic payment.
You may contact any dealer and ask for alternative payment; IE: cash, check, money order, etc.

Suggest you contact PayPal. It worked for me. It's possible that they are lacking something from you in order to do that.

That is true and I have done that. Some will, some won't. My bad for not stating this.

Here's the scoop......Paypal is now required to ask for your SS#.
If it's not on file, payment goes to creditcard or echeck.
Once the SS# is provided, payment reverts to your bank account.

Yes..... and if you don't give it to them.......... Paypal holds your payments (to you) for 21 days! Good thing I could careless about getting my money fast. I will wait 21 days.

Paypal and gunbroker are not in bed with each other. You can not pay for your guns with your paypal account. They could pick up a lot of cash there.

Internet banking at it's finest. Think of PayPal as the next Major Bank. It's widely used because it works. I know it's a hard transition for us old people, but... don't be paranoid. The old cliche is still true: If you don't have the money, don't buy it !

Just went to Ebid, three thoughts:

-Looks like it could be owned by ebay, an OEM of sorts. Anyone knows who owns it?
-I saw some of the same exact listings there as I found on ebay. They even have an "Import from ebay" option
-If it's not an OEM I wonder if these guys are going to get sued for copyright/trademark infringement for using the word ebay on their site so frequently and basically pawning the entire architecture that ebay uses on their site?
I'd like my copper well done please!

Looks like a good selling venue with more traffic. That URL has to be simplified though.
