I think the pics are good enough for an uneducated guess. I don't see lines going across the eagles wings and I'm not sure what is going on between the A & the R on the reverse. Even though it appears there's a full Liberty I'll say VF-35. Very nice example for the grade. Edited to add or subtract nouns, verbs and punctuation marks.

If it were a normal barber Issue I would be in the XF crowd. I think this coin is AU50 looking at the rims and considering the fact that O issues are not fully struck for the most part.
Wierd. I've had Pcgs 45 and 50 09-o's that were nicely struck. This looks like an 05-o which is really mushy even with luster. You just never know. You have a great looking coin and I'll bet it's a 40. And, I'm envious.
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.
LOL! Now he shows you guys the luster the coin has! This is a great example of why pictures can make a full grade difference! I was in the 35-40 camp when I looked at the 1st set of pics and with the 2nd set I fully concur with your assessment of rights to a 50!

Attractive coin and makes the argument why grading from pictures can be problematc- I thought minimum 40 unless there was a little flash and lustre and the initial picture was not the best to suggest the grade- a very nice coin and please understand I am not slamming the image- as you pointed out, to capture the coin appropriately is a gift we all do not have
The coin is a keeper

I thought the surfaces looked very clean - and enough detail for a 40 ish coin - its the images of the REV that kept me from going any higher than a 40.
BTW - I just sold this 09-O at FUN - via Private Treaty... yes, that's a Gold CAC...

Mike, nothing against you, but that looks like a solid 55 and definitely not worthy of a Gold bean. I'm seeing a lot of wear, and enough that it doesn't stand a chance of ever getting into a 58 holder
Overgraded, but a very tough coin to find, congrats. I was watching that auction on ebay and thought it would go for well over $1,000. You got lucky because the seller didn't list the coin thoroughly. He didn't put the word "barber" in the title of the listing, as a result at least one collector who would have bid much higher didn't see it.

Just found it on eBay... looks like the guy had it as a one day listing... that likely kept lots of potential bidders from finding this one, including myself. You stole this coin, congrats!

big coin!
I'll wager a guess ...
45 might be doable ... but due to strike annomolies and the picture itself, it's hard to tell without it in hand

I can't disagree with the 35 grade - but the overall appearance looks nicer - so XF 40.
Sweet coin, Chris.

Winston,
If the coin was "58" crossable - I would never have sold it.
I flew to Atlanta just to buy this coin and pick up a consignment.
The old images I was relying on were juiced - and although a very
rare coin in its own right - it wasn't what I was expecting.
