You will definitely find buyers for the sets in that condition, and be careful not to be so eager to sell that you don't get top dollar. Those are very good sets.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !
  • Please have a look!

Am I missing something? I'm getting around $385 VCP for the 9 graded cards in the '71 set, not $800

  • Do a little homework, and don't just instantly jot down the number VCP gives you.. Dig in and get your hands dirty and truly understand all the listings, auctions, look for errors and report them to VCP to build accuracy.

I can go on and on about VCP, I am a member of VCP and other sources, use them all, educate yourself why one PSA 9 would get more than another when they are both PSA 9's, etc etc... determine 1/2 grades, notice when there is lack of data etc..I think you can figure it out...

Seems like your doing a lot of bashing around the boards?

Do us all a favor and use that little button to the right, click it, and talk it out personally if you are truly interested.

    Have a good one.

to be fair you did quote VCP not "selective VCP". I'll bite, what are we missing?

kindly point to where I've "bashed" someone. In fact, I think I've helped a lot of people on here in one way or another. I only asked if there was something I was missing. I always do my homework as I buy A LOT of stuff on here, and a lot of high end stuff at that. It was simply a question as I was interested in the sets and was getting a very different number than the one you quoted.
  • I am also curious how you arrived at that $800 figure for those nine cards. Usually people assume that means the average price listed on VCP. For people that don't have a subscription to VCP, your original statement might be viewed as dishonest. If you could go on and on about the problems with VCP, don't use it as a selling/marketing tool in your listing.

  • Ok thats cool, lets do a little test then on a lower grade card:

But dont call me dishonest, i think that is bad "people" skills to even say that without giving me an opportunity.

Lets say you have this card... what will you sell it for? And lets all be honest here...

    1971 Oscar Robertson PSA 7:

FYI, this is the same seller that I've had issues with. Constant back & forth, deal then no deal, promised scans that never arrive, etc. For you to bash Tommy in light of your history is laughable.

  • I will bite as well.

I collect a lot of basketball maybe not as high end, but am working on a full set run from 1961 through 1981. I have gotten some good cards and really like the ABA and old school photos

If you really want to maximize value I would put these in an auction house. Get the key cards graded and go that way.

Most guys here looking to buy at wholesale and sell at retail.

    I will give example

1971 set I have bids and offers from members on this board for similar quality set in the $500-700 range

1972 set. Really depends on the quality of the Erving rookie. with a 9OC that hurts but if it were in a 9 it would be a different story. 1972 sets are again in the 500-750 range
These are somewhat dated but good comps

    http://www.goodwinandco.com/LotDetail.aspx?lotid=5390 500-600 range

    http://sports.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=9708&lotNo=19313 near 1000

I bought a solid 1973 set in 7+ range for less than $250 recently.

1974 set is difficult to put together so I think of all the sets this one is probably about right

    Just my two cents

    Thanks

I still don't get where you are getting your numbers from. If you are saying that the Cowens would go for more than $64 then that's fine. The vcp in 8 is $40 and the vcp in 9 is $170, so if you make it avg to the middle then it's still only $105 and I highly doubt it would fetch that. I'm betting in the $80 range. But for arguments sake, lets add $41 to the total.

The Robertson in 7 has vcp of $16, but you feel it's worth more, ok. The 5 sales in the last year avg. $21 with the one high one of $37 being a listing, but ok, whatever, add another $5. We are still only at $431. Where is the other $369 coming from?

Yeah im gonna sell to a guy who heard stories that likes to rip people off, an offer wayyy low ball offers, recognize yourself before accusing others, your laughable..... cya!
  • I guess ill have to gather that info for you guys as well, we talked through 2 cards, value went up, 7 cards to go, value will go up, gosh...if i got to do this everytime for people who wont even buy, its not worth it, lol

Actually i dont have the time to do that...

no one ever warned me about Burgundy.

i figured out Tommy on my own. image

so let's see now, two of the guys on this board who participate most actively in the redistribution of product to the benefit of virtually all who choose to deal with them have now been dissed and dismissed by a guy who has been pimping the same stuff for months and still can't sell it.

maybe you should reconsider your position, i've dealt with both of those guys, fair and square.

perhaps it would be healthier to stop leaning so heavily on VCP and what everyone else gets for their cards.

if you have high quality stuff, people here will fall all over themselves to buy it, but if you have what so many other people have, be prepared to accept genuine offers.

that is, if you REALLY want to sell.
