what happened here? an e bay question

A little while ago I bid on a 2011sae set S coin. The current bid was $250.00 and I bid $260.00.The high bid went to $270.00 so I was outbid. With 15 seconds left I bid $275.00 and it said I was the highest bidder. As the clock wound down to zero,I was still high bidder. When the auction finished it said I didnt win the auction but the winning bid was $275.00.So can anyone tell me what happened?Should I contact e bay? or the seller? does this make any sense?

it could say you were the high bidder. Worth a call for an explanation.

I don't think that eBay tells you that you have bid that same amount as someone else. It simply says that you are the high bidder.
Post a link to the listing please or check the bidding history of the item. It should show times of when both $275 bids were placed.

ok thanks Lee.was so flustered I didnt think of checking the bids.you were right. One minute before I bid the high amount, someone else had bid it.Its just that I had that green line on the screen you are the high bidder until it was over.
<< <i>That's why I always snipe with odd amounts, such as $276 in this case. Of course, I assume there are other people like me out there, so sometimes I'll put in a $277 just in case. >>
Or $277.04

i often times review bids on my items just for curiosity sake and a few times i've seen the high bidder have 2-5 top bids meaning they came back and added a
little each time and i really really get a good ironic laugh out of that, especially if no one else even bids
.

I won a lot of auctions by adding in a few cents to each bid.

$277.77 is a common bid amount by me. Or maybe it's $27.77. But you get the idea
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!

A $275.01 would have worked as well.
