2012 FUN Report, with image of newp Large Cent

-arrived Wednesday, scoured bourse from 2:00-7:00 PM
-mainly looked for capped bust half dimes and classic head large cents
-no suitable half dimes for my collection, no suitable large cents
-John Krajlevich didn't have any Naval Medals for me either.
-Found a set of Mexican Libertads, complete from 1982-2003, in a Dansco album. Bought it for a bit over melt value. Cool coins, nice album toning.
-had Todd P (Blucc photos) image three half dimes for me (pictures next week most likely) before I gave the coins to PCGS for attribution
-Thursday was much of the same, except arrival time was 8:30 and departure time was around 7 PM
-looked at lots of half dimes and large cents. No dice.
-went back to the table where I got the Libertad set. Hoping to find some 2004-2011 Libertads, no luck, but did have two more 1995s and a toned 1997 set (ounce, half, quarter, tenth, and twentieth). Bought it all, just above melt.
-found a few Libertads for the album. Got all but 2006-2007 now. Should not be too hard to find those.
-Picked up my coins from Todd. His photos rock, so I look forward to seeing what he did with my half dimes
-sold a couple of coins on the floor to various dealers
-Dinner at Christini's (sp?) was awesome.
-Friday my time was limited. Arrived at 8:30, but had PCGS lunch at 11:30 (thanks PCGS!) and JRCS meeting at 2:00, plus a flight to catch requiring me to leave around 4 PM
-looked at lots more coins, finally found one that will serve as an upgrade to my large cent collection for the S-294 variety. Pictures below. Came from Doug Bird.
-sold a half dime with a cud to a fellow collector
-I figure I looked at more than a hundred half dimes and a hundred or more classic head large cents over the course of the Wed-Fri time I spent at the show.
-dropped off three coins with PCGS for attribution only. They will go into my registry set once the attribution is on the label.
-overall, saw lots of forum members, talked to new and old friends, had a fine time.
edit to add: Viewed quite a few of the capped bust half dimes and some of the large cents that are/were in Heritage's auction. Mostly unimpressed. VERY surprised with the prices realized for what I considered to be anywhere from terrible looking coins to "ok for someone else" coins.

<< <i>Nice report and coin Barndog. Those Classic Heads do seem to bring in strong money in auction. >>
a couple that I looked at in person during Heritage lot viewing ended up bringing STUPID money. The people bidding them up that high bought the labels and didn't even see them in hand. The coins were totally not worth it. Average minus surfaces on each. One was porous, yet still in a holder. Much nicer to see the things in person when buying.
I've seen a number of MS 64 Classics, and my response to all but one of them has been to je govno. Your coin is very attractive. I have not seen many like it, either in hand or via image.
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
I'm glad you were able to locate a Classic head cent that met your standards. They are tough to find
nice, and price has to be a secondary consideration.
This is the one I was telling you about, that I lucked into after years of searching:
Drunner
I mean - Oh Yeah, baby!
I knew it would happen.
Nice large cent you picked up there.
Mike
Neat large cent!
