Could "First Strike" actually be some of the last coins off the dies?

I wonder if the coins are packaged, palletized, then shipped to the disbursement facility. It would seem in that scenario, the last coins processed would be the first coins sent out.

I suspect that first strikes could ship at ANY time, since there are multiple die changes, and multiple shipments.

"First Strike" (as defined by TPGs) has nothing to do with the order in which the coins were struck from a particular set of dies. It has everything to do with when they were released from the US Mint. As an extreme example ... if the US Mint decided to strike all examples of a particular release before releasing to the public and then shipped all the coins at the same time, they would all be "First Strike" coins (according to how TPGs define "First Strike").

"First Strike" is more accurately an "Early Release" or, even better, "Early Certified."

Correct ... as stated several times above... First Strike is a misnomer... cannot be determined, there are first strikes every time a die is changed etc etc etc...... shipping date gains the title. Cheers, RickO

    Yuuuuuuupppppp

First Strikes only numismatic value is in the insert. (if inserts have numismatic value)

First coins struck at the bottom of the pile and last ones sold. It is possible.

  • Thank you for introducing some sense into this FS hoax.
I just had my fanny chewed for opening an 'original mint box'. Told her I buy coins, not cardboard. Inside was a Letitia Tyler UNC with a magnificent red spot despoiling the obverse field.
Many, many perfect transactions with other members. Ask please.
