I do not get it.

The EBay sellers doing VG-EX & EX set breaks of 70's sets. Wtf? A colossal waste of time.

There are lots of guys out there with the following characteristics:

    1) They are totally undercapitalized.
    2) Their profit expectations are humble.
    3) They have lots of free time.
    4) They have difficulty determining the expected value of a given proposition/endeavor.

One of the many curiosities of the sports card market is that once you rise a bit into the relatively thin air- and I'm talking about deals in the $3-5K range- your number of competitors shrinks considerably and you can find some good deals. But if you're looking for deals in the $100-500 range it can be a real grind, since there are so many guys out there with just enough capital to allow them to compete with you.

You seem to be implying that there is no room for the average Joe in this hobby. Not everyone has deep pockets filled to the tops nor a stuffed bank account.
In this time of tough goings lots of collectors are looking for bargains. Many of us just can not afford to spend as freely as we like.Thank God there are sellers out the that sell lower to mid grade stuff.

I considered you a pretty square person on this forum and hopefully I am misunderstanding your comment.

No, I'm not saying that at all. Good grief.

What I AM saying is why would anyone list 720 VG-EX cards from a 1970 set, when 695 of them don't sell at 99 cents & another 10 sell for exactly that, leaving 15 cards or so that sell. That seems like a waste of time & money for a seller.

    +1

Ron is not disparaging off-condition cards, he's raising a point about how pointless it is from the seller's perspective. He would make more money just selling the set as a set, that way he would avoid the approx. 700 listing fees, postage for each card, etc.

Gotcha and your comment does make lots of sense.Besides I follow the same practice by selling off condition by lots or sets than by singles.I just misunderstood the comment.I guess I wasnt too focused this morning when I read it.

You are still a good guy.

With the exception of the 1971 Topps Baseball, I agree with you.

I've made a nice amount of money buying large lots of 1971 Topps and parting it out, even in VG-EX & EX condition.

Might be that 1000-2000 free listing offer that ebay has been giving.
Eh there is a lot of junk on ebay. Thanks god its not craigslist. JK
    Both are awesome.
  • Those are going to be the next big collectors items. 1970's cards in VG to EX condition. The boom is going to happen, especially for the 1975-1979 years.
