FUN Show 2012 Report

Slept in and missed the Forum member breakfast this year
Got to the convention hall about 15 min early and signed in prior to the awards and ribbon cutting ceremony.
There seemed to be quite a few people lined up waiting to get in, which is typical for this show.
The floor was immediately buzzing with activity. I looked at and bought coins non-stop from 10am until about 2:30.
Took a short break and had a nice and long awaited meet up with Barndog from the forum. Great to finally meet you in person,
Richard!
Finished up another deal and noticed that DennisH had called, so I tracked him down - another member I've PM'd with gosh several hundred times?! Great to finally meet you too, Dennis.
While we were chatting, Coinkid (Paul) came running up with a stunning rainbowed 82CC he had cherried - no lights or mag required, it was an awesome coin. He was trying to locate the table that had its mate that he had seen earlier - hope you tracked it down, Paul.
Met Charmy (PennyLady) in person, and got my picture taken. She is aptly named - definitely a nice lady, and my does she have the small cents! Wow!
Barbers and more Barbers - quarters and halves - are what I wound up buying today. I was able to locate some nice VF-XF better dates in both series. I'm sure I bought some duplicates, as I lost track, but when you find the better dates anywhere near Bid, I have no problem owning dupes. Circ Barber halves were definitely still active though - I frequently had to 'share' space with other guys looking through the offerings.
Did not buy any large cents - though there were some very nice ones about - but following suit with the auctions, the prices were very high. Heck even the problem coins were high. And apart from the EAC dealer/specialists, the 'avg Joe' dealer had very little to offer.
Walkers - Saw more early dates in AU and Unc than previous years. Prices were not unreasonable, either, but the only ones I acquired were a few late dates in PCGS 5 and 6 holders to upgrade my reg set that one of my dealer friends was selling at Bluesheet prices
One of the dealers that sold me a number of Barbers also had 6 original bank rolls of walkers on display - dates from the 30's and 40's - Heritage was buying the deal, but they were still in his case.
Looking forward to seeing other show reports!

Great show report.
I was only at the show for about 3 hours, really only went today to drop some coins off for Todd to image. So I just did a quick walk thru. Stopped at 2 tables I was planning on going to on Friday.
I was blown away at how great 2 experiences went. I had 7 CBH that I was thinning out of my collection. So I figured that I would try and do some trading. Both dealers, I let them pick the coins they had an interest in and they said give me a number. I gave them a number and and said deal. No haggling over my price at all. Then when I finally picked out the coin I was interested in both dealers even discounted the price without me asking.
I was ready to take a hit on some of the coins just to move into something else, but was pleasantly suprised.
I bought my very first Lincoln for my collection from Charmy, what a great lady to take the time any educate me a little bit. It was a 1911 MPL in 64, with wonderful color.
So my three new coins for today are:
1911 MPL 64
1805 4 Berry PCGC AU50 with a nice original look, and a little color
1872 Seated Dollar in PR63 with amazing album toning
I had to leave so I had money to go back tomorrow. I also realized the I can do with the high prices of Heritage, once you establish some relationships. I have 3 dealers to stop at on Friday, that called me and said they are holding coins for me to look at before going into the showcase. That makes me feel good, considering I am picky and in all reality a pretty small fish.
I thought the show had very good attendence for Thursday and ssaw many high dollar coins change hands. The biggest impression I left the show with, was how friendly everyone was. Usually, some dealers are a little grumpy, but all seemed to say hello, and offered help before I asked.
On a side note, I like the show better in Orlando than Tampa, and I live in Tampa.

Wish I was there...

Understatement, great coin!!
Many talked about the 'strong prices' in the Heritage auctions, and that it has been tough to buy anything nice.
Same stuff we talk about on the forum more or less!

Did you see any nice AU 23-s, 27-s or 28-s Walkers?
<< <i>Nice seeing you today! Unfortunately the mate to my coin sold before I got back to the table...You can see the images in my NEWPS report I just posted!

Sorry buddy...I had no idea and what are the odds? Has to be the same coin I bought
Thanks for taking the time and effort to post.

No, I did not. I seldom saw those coins in AU 25 years ago when working on my AU set, and they have become scarcer since then.
I saw two slabbed 27S's in 63 (this date is far more common in MS than in AU). I saw two 28S's, raw, that said AU, but they were 'shined up' XF45's.
I saw two-23S's in VF35 - one was priced at moon money, the other priced fairly, but had some funky rim toning on the rev that I didn't care for.
There is a walker specialist set up there, that I did not have a chance to review all his inventory, as he was on the floor most of the day. He had alerted me
to a 20D he had in PCGS AU50. I saw it in his case, but did not care for it, as it was a little too dark and lusterless for my taste. I did note he had two stacks of 16S's
in AU and Unc, and a small stack of 21P's with a nice PCGS AU50 right on top. But as he was not there and I was rushing, did not look at everything. And his prices historically have been extremely high, so unless he has something I really need, generally don't buy anything. But if anyone had those dates you listed, it would have been him.
Great report Greg. You are the MAN at hunting down better Barber date/grade combos.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
Loves me some shiny!
