New year - desert nugget hunting- wish me luck

metalmeistermetalmeister Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭✭✭
Heading out to AZ from CA next weeks for some camping and R&R nugget hunting. Using google earth and some old usgs maps to locate
some potential sites. A 47.5 oz. nugget was pulled out of the area back in the 1870's.

RickO, I have an old 1990's vintage Whites Goldmaster. 7 gr. nugget sound pretty nice. Please show us a pic.
I'll post some pics of eye ball and dredged gold.

If I post a picture, it will be a first for me.... image over on the coin forum I am notorious for that...just never got the equipment -or knowledge- to be able to post pictures. Will give it a try...
When I was gold hunting out west (CA, AZ, WA) I used my White's GMT and TDI...great machines...

    Cheers, RickO

I lived out in Tucson right after the navy for a couple of years and found the desert provides many people with income. Tarantula's apparantly sold well as did rattlesnakes and there are solid techniques for catching both. I knew one old guy who had lived out there all his life and ran a junk yard , he showed us some gold he had found in the desert , here's the thing though and why i mention it , the nuggets of gold were black. I don't know what caused this but thought it worth mentioning, dont discard heavy black pebbles thinking its iron.
