<< <i>That probably will settle it then. Only once that I could tell did the AP vote someone as their first team QB and give a different QB the MVP (1987 - All-Pro Joe Montana - MVP John Elway). So, Rodgers most likely gets the award. I have no problem with that. >>

I would bet Rodgers gets at least 40 of the 50 possible MVP votes. It's not even going to be close. Landslide.

Jarred Allen and Calvin Johnson each had 49 out of 50 votes. Very petty on someone(s) behalf that kept them from being unanimous. Anyone know the source? MJ

No kidding. Who the hell thinks Calvin Johnson isn't an All-Pro this year? He's clearly the best in the league at WR.

The votes are cast independently. Meaning the voters do not know who the other voters are casting votes for. That being said, what you are suggesting is not impossible, I guess it could happen. But with 50 different voters, the odds are not that great that any one player will get all 50 votes. Besides, 49 votes vs. 50 doesn't cast any type of different shadow on each player. No bonus points for being unanimous. Which makes me wonder why any voter would not vote for one of these players for the sole purpose of making sure they aren't unanimous.

Here are the votes at WR. I can't claim to understand who votes for who and why. But each voter selects 2 WR's. 49 of the 50 made Johnson one of those 2 WR, one voter chose to totall separate players. Personally I think they got it right. I would have voted for Johnson and Welker, who were the top vote getters and the players considered FIRST TEAM ALL-PRO selections.

Calvin Johnson, Detroit, 49; Wes Welker, New England, 23; Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona, 15; Victor Cruz, New York Giants, 9; Steve Smith, Carolina, 2; Jordy Nelson, Green Bay, 1; Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh, 1

Agreed. Johnson and Welker seem like easy selections. I watched every Panthers game this year. Steve Smith was absolutely invisible in at least 6-7 of those games. No way he should be first team all-pro.

only argument you could have is Victor Cruz. Guy was awesome this year. Johson is clearly #1 I think Welker is clearly #2 and then Cruz #3.

Cruz was a beast, no doubt. The knock on him is that he didn't start the first half of the season..If he had, his numbers probably would have been better than even Megatron..Just based on his pace once he became a starter.

If Fitzgerald had Brady or stafford or even Eli throwing him the ball I think he's a lock. The guy is amazing.

You could say that about 20 other WRs too....Don't get ne wrong, Fitzgerald talent wise is one of the top 3 WR in the league...But having a QB who throws for 5,000 yards (or close to it) in a passing offense would make a ton of guys look great.

Fitzgerald is great with scrub QBs and no other WR threats on his team. Says it all.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers has won the 2011 Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award in a landslide.

Rodgers earned 48 votes to two for New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL. The Packers star is the first Green Bay player honored since Brett Favre concluded a run of three straight seasons as MVP in 1997.

  • Rodgers did win the MVP award, Brees however won the Offensive Player of the Year award.

Well deserved though, what a monster year Brees had throwing the ball!
