Grade my key date Buffalos

OnWithTheHuntOnWithTheHunt Posts: 1,175 ✭✭✭✭✭
These aren't going in to TPG slabs anytime soon, they are in a holder with the rest of my set, so I'll depend on the folks here to let me know if they grade what I bought them at.
Thanks and Happy New Year to all

Without looking at my grade guides I`d say vf-20 to vf-35 from top to bottom.

Talk about some heart stoppers (not to mention set stoppers!).
    Very nice!
My only concern would be verification of authenticity, as there are fakes of these dates around.
    My guesses:
    VF30, maybe VF35
    XF40
    VF35
XF40, shot XF45, and very well struck for the issue.

Too much wear on the flank of #1 for anything higher than VF20-25 IMO

The overdate SEEMS TO BE 25 shot 30

    The 1921-s is 40 shot 45

    the 1924-s is 40 shot 45

and the 1926-s is in the OMG range for strike and appearance- what a terrific coin- easily 45 and if there is lustre I don't think 50 to 53 is unreasonable. This is one of the best circ examples I have seen of this date-

I would submit these... seriously. I see them as bsing very attractive and I think I will upgrade the 1921-s to 45- I see it as better than 40

It's threads like this that remind me, it wasn't that long ago when the mint could actually make REAL coins, not the sickly simulacrums we have today.

    Hello,

I'm with coinkat, that 26-S is a stunner, when I saw it I said "wow" what a real nice coin and well struck for sure.

Nice Buffs! I wouldn't mind having these in my collection.

1918/7 - VF25-VF30 I'm leaning towards VF25 due to not enough hair detail on both obverse and reverse.

1921-S - VF35-EF40 Too much wear on buffalo hair to grade higher. Can't tell for sure, but might be a typical weakly struck '21.

1924 -S - VF-35-EF40 Better strike than the '21, but wear is about the same

1926-S - Solid EF40 Better buffalo hair detail. Base of horn is not quite all there. Could squeak to EF45.

    That is so true.
And I think that with all the waste in Washington, a little extra put into the mint would enable them to produce coinage like this again.
I know that they can bang out a ton of the cr@p they do today for peanuts, but what a difference it would be if our Jeffs were replaced with a real coin like these Buffs. Imagine coins like Walkers and Mercs in our pockets again.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

The 18/7 mintmark does not look right. It appears to have a vertical placement and not close to the e.

Everyone here has been close in their grades and IMHO right on target. BTW, I agree that these should be graded before you sell. And the overdate is unquestionably genuine.

Very nice choices for your collection. You will see the benefits when it comes time to sell.

Nice group. I like 25 for the overdate although the obverse, which is the side that matters, especially on that coin, is better. Between Ed (Cape) and Garrow, the grades are probably about right. I would be a bit concerned about the obverse rim on the overdate (look at about 4 o'clock) but it might be the photo.
