I have a member from another forum requesting information on this type III gold dollar. It's jewelry, but I was wondering (hoping) that someone might be able to determine the date from the die marriage... Thanks in advance!

    These coins were struck from hubbed dies, so the differences between varieites are slight. The only thing I can tell you is that given the size of the "1" in the date, the coin was not minted from 1859 to 1867. The dates were small during that period, and the large "1" indicates this coin was minted during a different era from that.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    When I really enlarge the image on my iPhone it looks like the tops of three eights show, so I'm going to suggest 1888.
