14k Gold Filled Medal Question

I have an opportunity to buy a “14k Gold Filled” Medallic Arts medal from the late 60s.
Supposedly only 100 were produced and originally sold for $1000.
It weighs over 2 ounces. Does anyone know how much gold it contains?

Gold plated....weight would be approx: 1/20 the weight of the item..you do the math. (approx 3 gram of 14K x .58 )

  • I have dealt with similar material, I would say no more that $1.00

In the USA the quality of gold filled is defined by the Federal Trade Commission. If the gold layer is 10 kt fineness the minimum layer of karat gold in an item stamped GF must equal at least 1/10 the weight of the total item. If the gold layer is 12 kt or higher the minimum layer of karat gold in an item stamped GF must equal at least 1/20 the weight of the total item.

Not the same as the 100 mills crap.

I have no interest in buying what amounts to glorified gold plated coins or medals. Caveat emptor.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
