Ebay unpaid item

derrybderryb Posts: 36,792 ✭✭✭✭✭
Ebay appears to now automatically be opening unpaid item cases on behalf of sellers after four days. Had a buyer contact me right after purchase and ask if I could wait six days for payment and I gladly agreed. On day four I get a message from ebay that they have opened an unpaid item case. Fortunately buyers requested payment date will come before ebay says he will get an unpaid item strike.

  • You can turn that automatic feature off.

You don't have to turn it off. eBay, under the "automated NPB" function, does not, and I repeat, does not automatically assess the NPB against the buyer. It's your option to do so after the expired waiting period, it's not done automatically by eBay. So you can wait for the promised payment, however, if it is a broken promise & you turned of your function, the buyer now can leave neg FB, which he could not under the automated system.

Email I received from ebay on case being opened:
"We've told your buyer that we just opened an unpaid item case for (item title). If payment isn't received by Dec-24-11, you'll get a final value fee credit. We'll also record an unpaid item on the buyer's account."

Sounds like he gets an automatic strike if payment not made the deadline.

That's a standardized letter. I've had several similar instances & was under the impression that eBay would automatically report the NPB strike, but I found out, it not to be true after making a phone call to them. You will have to give the ok for the strike yourself when it becomes eligible.

Didn't mean to highjack this thread.

  • This is the first I've heard of this, I love to take checks and have never heard from eBay on "unpaid" items. I have been told though that my "Power Seller" status is in jeopardy. I don't really know what that means, and could care less. I sell things two or three times a year and don't plan on changing my modus operandiimage

You can set up your parameters where eBay will handle your NPB, but in your case....it's a moot issue. I'm surprised that you still have your PS status with only 3 sales a year.
