1911 Matte Proof

Give me your thoughts on this one. Sorry for the bad images. I will take some better ones soon I hope. Before anybody ask the diagnostics are all there for an MPL.

Certainly looks as a very nice MPL.

I don't care for that spot on the reverse and am concerned that it may continue to grow.

That spot looks ok to me in hand. Maybe it will hold. I will ask one of my local dealers to see what he thinks also in hand.

I also like it, except for the reverse spot.

    Image looks juiced. Sorry
  • My thoughts are that the doubling of the Y in LIBERTY is a dead ringer diagnostic for the MPL. As far as grade, the spot bothers me also...........but still an eye-popper if that is the true color.

I'm with you, Johnny. The coin, the photo or both look like they have been juiced. That does not look like a natural toned surface to me.

  • That is one amazing looking coin.

Bruce, how accurate is the color? MPL's can be spectacular but this looks very unusual.

Hard to say if that spot is alive or not. But I would watch it. I noticed a tiny one on a very flashy '55-S. So I shot pix and stored it safely away. I'll pull it out every few months and compare.

I feel the beauty of these coins lies in the matte finish in the fields and I think these psychedelic colors hide that beauty. Hope the photos are juiced.

I agree..even though the Matte surfaces are of a different texture ..it's the lighting probably...image

The reverse pattern is somewhat similar to this 1914 I used to own:
