Great centering. On VCP there is a more natural-looking picture of this PSA 5 Mantle from the prior auction in which it sold. I don't know how to pull the image file from VCP down, but for those that can see it, the card pictured here doesn't seem to match that one perfectly. The scanner settings here seem over saturated. And also when it sold on ebay the picture showed some paper loss on The Mick's neck, which the scan above doesn't show.

But funny thing is the one on ebay seems of Type 1 variety. And yet this one seems like a Type 2.

Ah, MrMint just got it up I see.

  • Lothar52Lothar52 Posts: 2,664 ✭✭✭
yeah whats up with the paper loss in the previous ebay sale and the lack of paper loss afterwards. This card looks similar to a psa 5 that 707 sportscards had in his online store that disappeared as well.

Your first post didn't say you were looking for some help. It says, "I have a 1952 Topps Mantle card graded a 5 EX for sale. Price is $17,000 OBO."

This may be the wrong place for whatever you're looking for.

After the info you received you "might not complete the deal now"

That is very hard for me to understand. Run fast from this deal. There is no might.

Selling a card you do not own. I do not understand that either.

Trying to sell a fake PSA card on the PSA message board. That is hard for me to understand also. Lots of well informed collectors here, some are also detectives.

So I guess these are some of the things that make it so hard for me to understand.

Ok, since ive had such as ordeal on here with this post i will just explain the whole story of what happened here.

I agreed to buy a 1952 topps mantle PSA 5 from a man about 45 minutes away from me. The only pic i recieved from him through email was the scan i posted on here. I only posted a card for sale on here before i actually had it in hand because i was trying to find a buyer to make a quick sale so i didnt have my money tied up for a long time. I now realize i should not have done that. After i found out all this info about the other card with the same cert number on ebay i emailed the man. He got back to me saying he had sent me the wrong photo in his initial email. He had sent me a pic of a card a friend of his had sent him a while back and asked him to check out for him before he bought it. He saved it to his desktop but never removed it. He has since sent me a new pic of the actual card i will be recieving from him. This whole confusing episode is all because the person im buying from sent me the wrong photo.

I will make a post later this week, when i actually have the card IN HAND this time.

    Sorry and thanks,

    Evan

Nothing worse than having a desktop filled with '52 Mantle scans and not knowing which one to send a prospective buyer. This happens to me all the time, so I can empathize with 'the guy who lives 45 minutes away'.

BTW, is the guy who lives 45 minutes away any relation to the deceased grandpas who graciously bequeathed their hordes of ungraded T206 Wagners to Ebayers with fewer than 50 Ebay feedbacks?

  • The concept of trying to have something sold before you buy it isn't foreign.... I've bought several items simply for that reason... It was sold and I knew what I was getting out of it.

It is the circumstances surrounding the above statement that the members are questioning I believe.

Just curious why you wouldn't drive the 45 minutes to check out the card in person. I am guessing the person will have
your money before you have the card. What happens if the card doesn't show?
Was this a craigslist deal by chance?

Just because you have done it, does not make it right. Way to many problems can occur when selling something you do not own.

    This is a great example.

Haven't you have also been burned using this strategy?

one last well-intended very strong piece of advice.

walk away. entirely. this whole shenanigan smells of a setup that will wind up with you getting mugged.

there's no Mantle card out there for you. not from Craigslist.

i fear for your physical health.

come back and post something sensible here. we could use the reassurance.

You see, I would have felt something was up if he wouldnt have offered to meet in the middle of a busy mall food court in the middle of the day. I am usually very carfeul about what i do on craigslist when it comes to robberies. I do know that with very expensive items you have to do a little bit of research and be careful. Im happy some people on here gave me good advice about the situation.
