Need some advice sell vs auction

I have decided to sell all of my Morgans. Around $20k or so worth (PCGS book value). I am about to send them all into Heritage. My boggle is whether to sell them outright (they will make an offer after they get them) or consign them to auction. Most of them are common but a handful might do ok at auction. I know toners can be big and for instance I have an almost solid blue obverse MS66 that I think could garner some interest and a couple of under-graded pieces.

So am I better off taking a cash offer or put them on the auction block?

Do both. Sell them the widgets outright and consign the better and more interesting pieces, especially if you want/need money quickly.

    That's what I generally do.

You might do better on bst and ebay

It may also be worth your while to speak with a dealer who does a lot of business with Heritage in the event that they can get you a better deal (assuming Heritage won't already offer you hammer + a few percent)

I agree. Even after fees I think you'd do better selling some of the better stuff here and the rest on ebay. People tend to overpay for morgans on ebay in my experience, which is good for you.

I would sell them on ebay as BIN with fees figured into your price. Of all series of coins, Morgans and CBH's seem to fair well in this venue. Actually, I have found most 19th century coins in plastic do well in this venue. You will receive your money as you want quickly, with no actual cost to you. I doubt it will happen, but should several not sell you will still have time to get them to Heritage for their offer. JMO.
    Best of luck.

Great Collections is auctioning off my Morgans and I am real happy rather than eBay or 15%
    other auction house.

With ebay's current promotion of free auction style listings it will cost you nothing to list them with a start price of your choosing. Great pics will make a difference. Use the ebay/paypal fee calculator to get an idea of your fees if they do sell.
