These boards are the best I've ever been on...

I just wanted to say that these forums are hands down the best forums of any nature I've ever used. Responses are practically instantaneous, it's EXTREMELY helpful to get into coin collecting, and trading through BST was a little nerve wrecking at first but VERY VERY trustworthy people here that I can trade here with ABSOLUTE CONFIDENCE. =)

Thanks everyone! And sorry for all the stupid questions I have asked or may ask in the future. Can't wait to attend one of the PCGS vendor shows in Vegas (probably the one June?). Am definitely looking forward to reading the authors that have been recommended on these forums.

there are very few forums on the internet that can compete with this one when
it comes to hobbies. it is definitely a gem of a find.

about the only one off the top of my head that is just as cool is reefcentral.com
for people who enjoy salt water aquariums.

i found the cgc comic forum to be quite creepy and gave up using it. (cgc is the
same company as ngc). But i should have expected it from comic book collectors
who enjoy viewing comics with muscle bound men running around in tights beating
each other up for the most part.

perhaps i am taking this post a bit off topic but is there any other forums about
other hobbies that is a cool as this one?

BST is good place to buy & sell. 99% of the time deals are no problem but there have been a few times not so good. Still pretty safe just exercise some caution. If someone or deal looks "funny" they get called on it real quick because we all like to buy/sell in a fairly safe venue. Get to know who your dealing with, take it slow. I've had a couple hundred deals never lost anything. 4-5 committed and changed mind but that's nothingimage

I'm pretty new to posting, but have been lurking for a while. I have to agree with the OP, great forum because of the great people. I've already made some good acquaintances that I hope to soon call friends.

Welcome and I too have to agree this place is special. Been here alittle over a year and so glad I found this site. It is hard to stay focused on any one series with all the coins being shown, finally settled on trying to put together a quarter set, There are many folks on this site willing to help and answer questions. I use to be addicted to iwon and after I found this place I have not gone back. Enjoy image And I found the BST thread just last month and have been really happy with the results from other members. Alot easier than the bay.

Agree that this coin forum is great but so is the NGC coin forums. Many members (both current and former) also post over there. There's no rule that you can't participate on more than one forum.

Yep... great forum...been here since the beginning... well, even before, on the old forum. There are other great forums for hobbies as well.. equally as informative in their field... for example.. http://www.defensivehandguns.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl and www.metaldetectingforum.com Cheers, RickO

I have to agree with the OP. After being warned that these boards were inhabited by "smug", "elitist" posters, I almost bought the contention after receiving "less than sympathetic" responses to an early post about the "fishiness" of an e-Bay bid. I took a deep breath and reconciled that all boards have their "crotchety" members and that I shouldn't judge a site by a few members. I let it roll off my back and continued to post and was met with informative, supportive and, quite frankly, entertaining responses. I plan to stick around.

Pretty great, ain't they? This has been my Internet "home away from home" for a decade, now.

If you are one that enjoys repairing vacuum tube radios and television sets, this forum is excellent, IMHO.

Sometimes I am convinced that one cannot appreciate the value of the CU forums unless one has had prior exposure to other coin collecting forum sites, i.e: rec.collecting.coins. Now there was a real back alley keyboard slugfest for anyone who dared to stick around! And this forum certainly overshadows the "open forum" that was banned from here a few years ago.

nothing will ever have that wild west feel of any of the old usenet groups.

i was never on r.c.c, but i frequented a few others back when.

do miss some aspects of usenet.

In my opinion, this forum was even better in the past. Unfortuantely, some our most knowledgable members chose to test the patience of the forums admins and have been summarily banned. image
