Is it worth getting graded?

I am not a Morgan collector and know little about the set. My personal opinion is no it is not worth getting it graded. That is unless you just want to do it for the sentimental value of the coin.

By the way very nice pictures and welcome to the Forum.

There is a wealth of knowledge to be had here if one just pays attention. There are many experts in just about any field of numismatics. On top of all of that there are some very nice people on the Forum.

Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride.

Very common date with nasty gouges on both sides. Worth very little above melt value of silver content, as far as I can tell. Otherwise, nice piece to keep in memory of ol' dad.

I agree with the previous posts.... nice keepsake... and a slab would prevent it from further deterioration... other than that, no numismatic value above melt. Cheers, RickO

If it were me I'd put it in one of those Capital holders. You'd save some money and the risk of having your coin lost during shipping.

one of my most cherished coin is a common date 1904 $5 gold piece. I sent it to PCGS and got it back as AU55, it was passed down from my grandfather to my mother then to me.

Probably a dumb question, but where can you find a list of what Morgan/Peace dollars are worth more than others, depending on the date of issue? I inherited about 50 mixed Morgan and Peace dollars and would like to go thru them to see if I might have gotten lucky, or if I should just count myself lucky enough to have the lot of them.

Not a dumb question at all. I would start with a price guide, you can glance at the prices and get a good idea of what the better dates are. Then if you have any questions, take a good pic or scan and post it. Some of it is going to be clear as mud for a while, but you will learn. Take your time and enjoy the adventure.image

You can use the smae site for Peace.
