Strike error?

Hi,

Parents sent me this 1853 lg cent for my IH cent collection, oh well. My question does it have a strike error, foreign object or are the markings just damage after the minting process?

In the date you can see an arching line, especially in the 8 and 3. On the reverse you can see the arching round line through United States Of America.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the boards. Posting a good pic would give you the best shot at getting your question answered, otherwise we can do nothing but speculate.

Edited to add: I see you got the pics up. I would venture to say that it is Post mint damage.

Thanks for the opinion. I kind of thought that.

still learning how to get photos as large as possible. How do people put pictures in their post?

Hard to tell from those small pics but it looks like post mintage damage.

From what I can see in your scans,
there is no error on the coin.

    The flattened/mishapen letters, etc.
    are from something being pressed
    into/against your coin......
