Anyone interested in Piggy-Backing on a PSA/DNA Submission? WE POPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got in touch with PSA/DNA about receiving a discount for doing a large submission. I have a large enough quanitity (thanks to our fellow members below) to send in my cards to have slabbed and authenticated (blue flip) for only $10 each. If anyone is interested in piggy-backing with me on a submission please lmk. I'll take care of the shipping to and from PSA/DNA. You'd solely be responsible for shipping to me, $10 per card, and actual return shipping back from me once we get them back.

They will only allow the discount to apply to cuts or trading cards that'll fit in their standard holders and it has to have a declared value of $100 or less per card. PSA was nice enough to expand the submission to include larger items (anything larger than the standard size holder but smaller than 8x10) for $15 each - and again have to be declared $100 or less. So your index cards, 4x6 photos, Goal Line Art Cards, etc can be authenticated an encapsulated for $15 each. If anyone is interested please either post or email me at raiderguy10@gmail.com.

Here's my plan. I will keep this topic open until Sunday night (12/11/11). Those who are interested can feel free to post or email here and I'll keep track of who is interested along with the quantity they are thinking they'll have (doesn't have to be set in stone - a rough number works too).

So if we keep this open until Sunday, would you guys be able to ship out next week? Then I would be able to get them off to PSA/DNA by 12/18/11 would be my estimate.

I will update here when each package is received.

Thanks Dboneesq. Any idea on a quantity so I can start keeping track, and I'll keep the original post updated. I actually had a couple PMs/emails right away as well, and have more than enough for the submission already.

I have had a couple inquiries about seeing if they would expand the standard holder to include index cards. I've got an email in and will see if there is anything we can do to accomodate index cards as well. I'm not expecting a $10 one like we got with the cards - but maybe I could swing a $15 per deal or something along those lines. I'll keep you updated with what I find out.

Heard back from PSA, so if this interests anyone please let me know. The 'larger sizes' apply to anything excluding the 8x10 holders.

    Hi Derrick,

Here is what we can offer you and let me know if this works….

Standard size cards can go at $10 each.

All larger sizes will go under $15 each.

If this works please submit the two orders on separate submission forms and attach this email.

    Thank you,

Red can go in your Registry. Also, a card must be a "real" card to go in the RED Flip. The card gets authenticated as well as the autograph. ie: one of Doran's customs will not be holderd in a RED FLIP ... BLUE FLIP only.

<< <i>can someone tell me again what the main difference is between the red & blue flips?

    IMF >>

1)When PSA slabs an autographed card in a blue flip, they are only making an opinion as to the authenticity of the autograph, they are not making an opinion as to the authenticity of the card itself. For cards that are valuable, this is extremely important, because if you buy a blue flipped autographed card, you have no independent verification that the card itself is authentic and unaltered, you only have verification that the auto is legit. If you call PSA and ask them, they will tell you that a card grader and authenticator, never reviews the blue flipped cards, only an autograph authenticator does. Thus, say for instance you are purchasing a Mickey Mantle signed rookie card, wouldn’t you want to know that BOTH the graph and the card are good as opposed to only knowing that the sig was good, but not knowing that the card might be a counterfeit?? With the red flips, PSA is making a judgement on BOTH the autograph and the card.
    2) When you send in a card for a blue flip, you have to pay different and higher fees based on different signers. (NOT ON THIS SPECIAL DEAL THAT THE POSTER ABOVE SETUP, I"M ANSWERING GENERALLY NOT THIS OCCASION) IE, Michael Jordan is $100, Tiger is $100, common player is $20, Mantle is $75 or so, etc. When you send in a card for a red flip, you pay one set price unless the card itself is valued over $500.00 then you simply pay the next level up for that one. It’s far cheaper to get cards slabbed with the red, then with the blue (GENERALLY, AGAIN, NOT THIS TIME).
    3) I personally don’t like the grading scales on the blue flipped autographs. It’s far too easy. 10’s are passed out like candy so to me it waters down the desirability of the numeric grade. Additionally, autographs are subject to environmental factors way more then cards are, so a blue flip autographed card might be a 10 today, and then in two years if exposed to light, you might not even be able to see the graph, however, it will still be housed in a 10 holder. To me, that’s totally bogus and I don’t see the market being able to sustain premium prices for high grades on graphs. Additionally, a person’s own eyes can easily discern the eye appeal of a graph, they don’t need a grader to call it a 10 to know that It’s bold, clear, and typical of the signer.
    4) I buy and sell all the time, and I’ve found that it’s far easier to sell autographed cards at better prices that are in a red flip with card grade then blue flip either with or without autograph grade. For high dollar items, if it’s in a blue flip, the first question people ask is “Is the card authentic and unaltered?”, if it’s in a red flip with “Authentic” only, (in other words, no card grade), then the first question they ask is “Is the card unaltered?”. I’ve found that even low graded cards in red flips tend to sell for more then ones just graded authentic. People seem to understand that for a variety of reasons, autographed cards are much harder to obtain in high card grades, then unautographed cards due to the reasons that damage can occur at so many points of the autograph acquisition. This also tremendously helps the sale of high grade red flipped autographed cards.

My above reply is pretty much my standard reply when someone asks the blue/red question. It doesn't necessarily apply here as the original poster is offering a pretty good deal and price IMO.

And to expand on that a bit, $20 is the cheapest fee plus another $10 to encapsulate. So with this special you basically pay for encapsulation and get the authentication (regardless of fee) for free

I've had a few members ask if we could postpone the submission for a while to get past the holidays. Unfortunately I don't think that can happen, as members have already submitted items to me with the expectation of them going out in about 10 days, and I've also let PSA know the submission will come the week of the 18th. I know the timing of this isn't the best with the holidays around the corner and I appologize for that. But I took what I could get when I got it.

With that said, assuming this works well, my goal would be to do this biannually and do two submissions a year through a bulk deal assuming they let it happen again. Maybe we could shoot for March and September submissions to keep it away from the holidays. So that's my thinking for those who are finding it difficult to make a submission with the holidays here.

Bump with an update. All packages have been sent, and I've marked what I've received and who has paid. I have not gotten the mail yet today, so this will be updated later tonight. But everything has been sent, and it looks like we should be on schedule to mail them off to PSA on Tuesday the 20th. I will be shipping in 2 packages to PSA - one for the standard submission, and another for the "larger" item submission. (and they will be separate submission forms as well). Once I send them off I'll post the tracking for both packages as well as the submission form #s so you can feel free to lookup to see updates on the submission. Then it'll be a waiting game.

I will also note that one package is coming from Canada. Not sure how customs will be with the holiday season, but it may take a little longer than usual. THat package was sent out last week ahead of everyone else, so I'm hoping it'll take the normal 10 days or so.

That's their authentication fees - not whether a "value" is over $100. That means we are asking for a $65 per off authentication fee for those. I'm not exactly sure who has justification on the "value" of our cards, but they just said due to abuse in the past they are looking at it more closely.

I know I've had some cards done in the past (and other members have informed me they have too), but I can't really push the envelope too hard since they are doing us a favor. Sorry if it causes some heartache and inconveniences.

And I agree - the Matson was most mysterious to me. Not sure why he'd be over $100, but it was a duplicate for me so I'm not too worried. But his is a $50 authentication fee -which is absurd. Certified autos on cards can be had for $15 or so.....

Sorry my mistake - I misunderstood your statement.

I emailed them and we'll see. My guess is that SMR hasn't been updated, or maybe since it's a quantity special rather than a monthly special they're being harder on the declared values.

Heard back, and they are going to stick with leaving those ones off. They didn't really give a reasoning, and I didn't want to push the envelope.

I did ask why guys like Ollie Matson have an authentication fee of $50 when you can buy pack pulled autos all day on ebay for $20 and under. They just said how valuable and how hard it is to authenticate the item drives the price. Seems like a dumb explanation on the Matson side, but again I'm not going to push it further.

So we will be moving ahead with 131 standard sized items and 15 larger items.
